Again: Vettel did a 1m24.939s on mediums day 1. That's less than one tenth off the fastest Mercedes time on the same tyre.

Again, none of this means anything unless you know fuel loads, engine settings, the program being run etc.

As others have been saying, I don't think out right lap time is on any of the teams mind. Winning in F1 now days is just about understanding the tires and extracting the maximum out of it. If there was anything to be learned the last couple of years is that getting that right plays a huge role in winning and being competitive. Just look back at Malaysia last year when it seemed Ferrari had the upper hand.

I'd be solely focusing on stint lengths, times and drop off...
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Very "radical" and "innovative": It's been called an S-duct for the past, like 3 seasons?
So what was Tobais and the rest of the Merc media so "hyped" about?

Yes, that 24.939 from Vettel on day 1 morning session as part of a long run was mighty impressive. Looks like finally with the SF16-H they can dial up fast laps at will, something that was missing in their cars for quite some time now.

I guess it is safe to assume that now, Honda PU has come near to Renault. I say this because, I feel the McLaren and Red Bull chassis might just be comparable with their downforce levels and are almost in the same top speed region.

We've seen some teams having different AoA and other settings between the two cars and having more than 10km/h difference in top speed and that was definitely not noticeable so if that is already hard to compare using the same chassis, imagine comparing two different ones we have no idea of internals and other data

edit: just look at how different speed traps are between ROS and HAM and it is literally the same car.
