McLaren MP4-31 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So size zero has been scrapped?
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

I wouldn't say that, even with the new body work the McLaren is one of the most tightly packaged cars on the grid. Perhaps they are testing different cooling configurations?

For now it is almost size - zero.

Mclaren have to adapt to the new PU requirements (more power & reliability) and later try to go back to size zero !!

Size Zero is only a Ron Dennis terminology !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think there actually could be an aero advantage from having that massive exit which will be heated?

only good news so far and good test days with out big problems.......in my eyes the car is good PP is top class and mclaren aero department experienced for this project ..honda make steps every time on right way .....drivers are hungry and perhaps the best and with no war between them its all about time .......at the moment the pace look like around 1 sec from mercedes.....that my opinion....but more coming every day ......lets see when and where.......for mclaren come back

It will be a disadvantage off course. A bodywork that resembles a droplet is most aero neutral, creates less resistance and less drag. But what is most important is that in that area the disadvantage might be small compared to what the engine upgrade might be.

Just compare to the exit of the williams which is not a bad car:

The undercut is important to not push air outside as in this image but instead guide it to the top of the diffuser.

Some more Pictures from Yesterday. Can't really spot any differences to the Rear Wing so it must be in Detail. But that's ok considering the RW was completely new from Day 1 on.

These show the Sidepod Undercut quite good. Enjoy @Jef Patat
