Red Bull RB12 TAG-Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Good or bad flow patterns?
In general very good patterns. No visible traces of separation. no significant adverse flow patterns. Which is quite an achievement looking at the rake they are running.
Only some minor inward flow of the footplate vortex into the outermost section of the diffuser. Without blown diffuser that is probably inevitable.

So, it looks like RBR aero department is again delivering to promise.

I guess you are talking about the 335 km/h Ricciardo did yesterday? This imho was done in slipstream.

Still no S duct? They are the only team not doing that, if I remember correctly.

I was hoping we would see something tricky on the last afternoon .. I guess these tight regs make it pretty hard to do that these days.

Very clean and simple looking car. No fancy rear wing end plates or turning vanes. Just extremely refined shape and most compact design imo.
For Sure!!

I get that vibe from both the Red Bull and the McLaren (no Wonder with Peter Prodromou at the Design Table there). It's like the Air is their Friend and they only have to ask nicely a few Times around the Car for it to do exactly what they want. The Mercedes for example seems to brute Force the Air to surrender to it's concept. Both get the Job done, but the former ones look way more elegant at it.

That's the difference that having a down-on-power power unit makes. RBR and McLaren don't have spare horsepower to deal with drag. Mercedes can afford to go looking for the last tenth using draggy designs. RBR need to get maximum clean downforce so that's what they've done.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

Would it be a fair assumption that there is no S-Duct to come?

Well, according to that pic, I think there is sufficient space to fit one. But who knows...
