AUSTRALIAN V8 SUPERCARS

Well just out of curiosity, who here has an interst in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship ?? if no one knows what it is.
Picture this raod version cars in two manufactures FORD and HOLDEN all cars are race ready, BIG V8 engines going wild

Well this weekend there is the BATHURST 1000 klm race PARTY TIME, anyway, need to know if anyone here is going. Any OZ's going?
Actually there will be some international stars racineg there, Jan Magnussen, Andy Priaulx,Nicolas Minassian, Max wilson X F1 Test driver for Williams, nice line up.

I remember back when they had 2 days of bathurst... 1 day for 2000cc supertouring cars (do they still do it?) and the next day for the Aussie V8 supercars.

Bathurst is an AWESOME track on TV, I had 5 years of studying in Sydney and never made it to Bathurst

I'm in Jakarta now, they'd probly screen it on ABC International (here's hoping).

You know what, the last time I watched the Bathurst 1000, Craig Lowndes was driving for Holden, and he was hailed as Australia's "great F1 hope". All that time, Mark Webber was driving (and flying) a Mercedes at Le Mans.

Personally I have no complaints about Webbo making it first... He's the sort of personality F1 needs. Lowndes seems to come across as this hotshot "Yeah I'm the F1-bound guy" snob kinda thing.

But yeah, am I the only one thinking that Mark Webber kinda flew below the radar for some time? He was never mentioned in the same breath as the other "it guys" like Lowndes, Jason Bright, etc.

Anyone for the "Move the Oz GP to Bathurst" campaign?

It's good to see some foriegn interest.

Now the Bathurst race is held over 4 days they have more supports races, like the Carrera Cup,MG Trophy,Konica series and others.

Well now Lowndes drives for FORD, though now he hasnt got that attitude, he just gets down to racing.He won the championship 3 times allready. Lowndes and his wife have always got time for a beer with their fans. I actually spoke to him for about 45 min last year at Bathurst.

But then Webber did go unoticed until he actually got to F1, what a shame. Then again now he has the support of the nation I have followed his career since Formula Ford here in the land of Down Under

Yeah and don't forget the Bathurst 24 hr coming up on 23/24 November I think..

For those not familiar with this track it is mountainous and a bit dangerous, so these guys race at NIGHT with no track lighting, gotta be one special run at say midnight across the mountain and down through the dipper

Hey I reckon Melbourne should be scrapped for F1 and hold it at Bathurst, thats gotta be mind blowing seeing F1 cars around that circuit, and think of the CROWDS

forgot to say I have been watching Bathurst since the days when 1275 cc Mini Cooper 'S' won the race, umm and even before then !!!!

Just read in an article in Auto Action, that Roland Dane the man behind Triple 8 Racing has just unveiled its state-of-the-art Advanced Technical Center, a sophisticated design and drawing office.
now Triple 8 have raised the bar in competion for the Australian V8 Supercars, should be good to see if the other teams follow suit, depending if they have the finances.
Then again its good to see the V8 Supercars Championship become more technically minded like our overseas counterparts

uugggh...those Australian made V8s are so low tec and heavy. I read in an Oz mag, they need a 5.7 litre v8 to generate the same amount of hp with a Porsche Cayenne, that uses only a V6. they should have used Double Overhead cam (DOHC) instead of an Over head Valve (OHV) type. They were using the same engine since 1999.

It might be a wise idea to read all post before you comment. Our population is smaller than Europe and America so teams find it hard to find big dollar sponsors. Though our Championship isis holding a race at Shanghai China which should boost international interest.

interestingly, the Holden now uses a 5.7 litre engine and the Ford a DOHC 5.4 (some are SOHC i think, i could care less for these taxis though)

FYI the engines are all US based anyway - so it's the yanks that can't make a 5.7L V8 produce as much power as a V6 cayenne....

... but don't forget, power isn't everything - you still need TORQUE (if you don't belive me, try driving a Honda! you need to absolutely caine the living --- out of it to keep up with traffic )

we dont get a V6 cayenne out here anyway, not that it matters, the 5.7's make close to or better then the cayennes 4.5 depending on whether they are tuned for sport or towing a caravan and they come about 1/2 the price. Before anyone calls it a taxi, remember that the standard German taxi is the E-class. Whatever, V8 supercar racing is great entertainment, at least the cars can turn both ways

lol.. are you kidding me?

last i checked, there IS no substitute for displacement... 5.7 liter V8 will produce more power than Cayenne V6 ANY day. (not to mention more torque.)


and i agree... Cayenne is for people with zero design sense or a wealthy hairdresser.

I reckon V8 supercar cool.

First of all,I think comparing a Cayenne (road car) to a V8 super car (race car) is not fair.Even if you are comparing a V8 road car Forad Xr8/FPV GT or Holden SS/HSV (Can't remember that model) to a Cayenne is still not fair because Cayenne meant to be a SUV.

Second of all,I am sure there are more than 1 substitutes for displacement,Turbo and Super charger.

Finally, I am strongly disagree with you Honda example.I know troque is important,but it doesn't mean a 2.0 Japanese Turbo engine with high power output would be any slower than V8.
