OCCFD 1.1.008 + OpenFoam 2.3 (by CFD Support) + Single core mode (parallelization doesn't work) + Win7 (or Win10) x64 + RAM 32gb + intel i7.

About drive C:: how much RAM is installed? Could it be swapping? Consider that the simulation requires about 6gb, so 8gb of RAM is the minimum, 16gb would be perfect.
I have 8gb ram installed.
It is probable that if you have an internal mesh issue (or, sometimes, even if everything is ok), your RAM is not enough and the OS uses C: as an extension of the memory. You should check the occupied memory during the run.

i'm going to do a single core run later today, i'll take note

I've had this issue a couple of times too

ok, so I left my pc on for most of the night and also yesterday and ran occfd on a f1 front wing stl file. when I came back to my pc in the morning occfd had closed, I assume it had finished, but there was a prompt for a firewall exception for pvbatch. I accepted the request. What I wanted to know, is will this lack of pvbatch have an effect on the completed simulation?

Thanks, i'm really a novice at this stuff.
so I followed Julien's video, and I get this:

when the wing should look like this

I don't understand what i'm doing wrong, or what's gone wrong in the analysis

It looks to me that you are visualizing 3D-Glyphs. Try switching to surfaces in the toolbar with drop-down menus.

Thanks!! I got it working! thank you to everyone who took their precious time out to deal with my ridiculous requests and pure lack of knowledge.

Two years ago I was at the same level with paraview&co ... don't worry!

Thanks for the reassurance! :)

I was wondering, what is the latest someone can submit a kvrc team? Even if it is for the introductory class?

So if I wanted to I could submit my own team, and design a car before the first race?

Do entrants have to pay?

Yes you can submit whenever you want. No fee is required.

RicME85 wrote:My point was that some of the free software aren't as efficient at working with complex geometry in a timely manner.

Have looked at my model in Netfabb and their are a few issues. I tried fixing them and opening the fixed STL in Sketchup but I am get a model that is smaller in size than the original (total length is like 10mm) and 90% of the model is wireframe without the areas between triangle edges filled in. Very odd. I think it is a Sketchup 2016 issue as I tried the KVRC files and same happened. Will install 2015 alongside for STL import.
Not sure I can fix the issues in time for submission however as some of the problems are my fault and some are to do with the supplied geometry.
When fixing with Netfabb, I am using the following process:
- Import the STL (the units are in m, but Netfabb believe they are mm);
- Scale the STL in Netfabb by 1000. Important: make sure to change the reference point to 0, 0, 0 otherwise you are screwed;
- Clean the mesh using Netfabb (typically automated tools in my case);
- Scale the STL back (by 1/1000). Important: make sure to change the reference point to 0, 0, 0 otherwise...
- Export the STL.

Then I am importing the STL of the body into MeshMixer to split the inlet and exhaust manually.
