McLaren Technologies Standard ECUs = Macca advantage?

Post

What do you think about McLaren Technologies being the supplier of Standard ECUs? Will that be an advantage in the first part of 2008, till the rest of the teams get to know the processor?

I assume the FIA spec'd it and had the software written for it to their standards. McLaren will not benefit.

Any mapper worth his salt, and I'm guessing all the engine manufacturers have them, will be able to fully utilise the ECU....however, not all mappers are the same.

If anyone has an advantage through the new ECU it will be just down to the skill of the mappers/team.

Mclaren technologies is a completely different company to Mclaren Formula One and is a seperate body... so really Mclaren have the same advantage as any other team...

The liver and the heart are separate parts of your body, but it is your brain that makes them work.

E?
McLaren Technologies is part of the McLaren group of companies and also the supplier of McLaren F1 team.
McLaren Technologies and McLaren F1 are under the same umbrella and have the same president. So, it is the same thing.

All other things are simply for the naives.

McLaren would definitely not use this spec ECU on their 2007 F1 car so they'll also be making the downgrade for 2008.
I doubt they will have a significant advantage, but that wouldn't stop the childish conspiracy theorists from suggesting so...

What concerns me is that the ECU is made in collaboration with Microsoft!

That means we'll be getting more than just cars crashing in the next 3 seasons  and all cars will have to have a "Start" button, to be pressed before shutting the car down!

I am pretty sure that Microsoft outsourced development to other company, maybe to MES.

I suspect that Macca used the new ECU in Brazil already. I believe to have seen Hamilton pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and rebooting the system while coasting with no gear engaged...

Thats not a problem, software is free, so if you are clever you´ll install Linux and problem solved :D

Sorry if that joke was already been told Zac510!

Teams have had the standard ECU for ages now, and have been testing with it for quite a while.

Many have complained that it doesn't work with their current systems, and many have said it doesn't make any difference.

Expect something like this message on your TV's next season:

Lewis Hamilton has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
