Oh come on...If Alonso was so much faster than Button, he would overtake Button... Alonso fans allways trying to find excuses when Alonso does not deliver...
... beause in F1 overtaking has no difficulty at all as we all know, specially on tracks like Montmelo it is quite easy.... oh wait

After second pit-stop Jenson got some seconds advantage thanks to being called to pit first, privilege for first car on track always. Then Alonso went to pits too, and from that point he went 0,7-1,0 seconds faster per lap, until he was on jenson´s slipstream again.

It is very easy to see if you remove all drivers except Jenson and Fernando

[sarcasm]But it must be we Alonso fans who see weird things, fans who do not look at lap charts probably know better than us because they´re that wise [/sarcasm]
It was not meant in the way overtaking is easy, but there is allways a guy that writes "Alonso is faster than Button x.x seconds and he would be x.x seconds infront...etc." All im saying is that im sick and tired of comments like that, which are repeated every single time when Button ends the race infront.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

So can we 100% confirm Button did 24.2 on medium tyre on test day 1?

I don´t think we can say Renault is improving more. That´s like saying difference between Honda and Renault is bigger now that it was past season. It obviously is not.

We can discuss what PU is better at this point, but Honda progress has been much better than Renault as differences between Mclaren and Renault powered teams show

Actually I think Honda PU has improved more than any other manufacturer. Because in 2015 it was embarrasingly slow and unreliable so their starting point was the lowest, that´s true, but we know that for more than one complete year, so now we can´t ignore it and say Renault has improved more than Honda, because they´ve not. If Renault would have improved as much as Honda, RBR would be challenging for victories constantly, even with Mercedes on track

Honda is doing a good job since the end of 2015, but we can´t expect a jump from a PU wich is 30kmh down on topspeed and also is the most unreliable, to a title contender in just one winter. Let alone if there´s a token system restricting development of manufacturers. They´re doing great, but first problem to solve was reliability, not perfomance. They solved it as we can see with Mercedes and Ferrari PUs both suffering from reliability more than Honda in 2016. But that was only mkI PU, next step is improving perfomance with mkII PU so we´ll see in Canada (if they finally use it there) how are they doing perfomance wise

I sincerely think they´re following a correct schedule, and targets are being achieved more or less. Everybody would want to win some race this season, but that´s a naive dream when you think about what was their perfomance past season.

2017 will be very different, period
2017 will be very different for everybody, lets see if this means that things will be better for Honda, I hope it.

As I have seen the update could be delayed until Austria, but those are only rumours so we will see.

I agree with the fact that they have improved more than other teams, but as you have said, the start point was so low that it was a must. Its clear that realiability has been improved but I dont expect to see a much better improve until 2017 when everything will be re-designed. High fuel consumption and tyre degration are thing that usually require a total re-built of the components.

Autosport ranks Mclaren chassis as the 4th best on the grid, which seems typical considering what we have seen in recent years.
Even if they had a Merc PU i think 4th best would be the reality for Mclaren.
Never Give up.

But how much is the chassis comprimised by the PU?
But on the other hand, how much advantage do they get from the size zero PU?

2014 was heavily comprimised as Mercedes did not give sufficient data on their PU, wich is understandable.

RB could have the same excuse because I would like to know how much information Renault gives to the team, taking into account 2015s crisis between both and that RB could change of PU for 2017.

Except Mercedes has their own team who is winning titles so they don´t want any rival taking point out of their scoreboard, while Renault is lost and RBR is the only team providing good results to the french manufacturer

In other words, RBR winning would be good for Renault, while McLaren winning would be bad for Mercedes, so situation is completely different and not comparable

I dont think you can call size zero a thing any more. the mercedes and ferrari are almost as tightly packaged as the mclaren just in different ways/ shapes

I cant see a worst sceneario for a brand like Renault than RB winning another championship. Would Mercedes like to see Williams or another customer team winning instead of them? I dont think so. This is the main reason why Mercedes and Ferrari didnt want to supply RB.

Some good news. It never occurred to me that it's worth waiting for the driver to come to end of his 4/5th race cycle with the engine before introducing an update. It makes perfect sense really.

But you can´t compare Renault and Mercedes. Mercedes did a huge investment to win titles, so any other team beating them with their PU would be a disaster as it would mean they didn´t do a good job with the chasis and aero, while Renault investment proves they are not targeting any title, so any other team winning with their PU would be good news to them

Both RBR and Mercedes are investing more than $400M per year (aiming for titles), while Renault invested around $100M (rough numbers), so I can´t see how someone winning with a Renault PU would be a disaster for Renault, specially when that team invested four times what Renault invested. They´re on different leagues right now, so I´m sure they´d be happy to see someone winning with their PU. Even if they don´t use Renault logos anymore

At least that´s the way I see it

Honda has made big steps forward with its hybrid system over the winter, so energy deployment is now much less of a weakness. But the engine is still in the region of 80-100bhp down on the Mercedes, insiders say.

Ron Dennis:
"The 2017 regulations level the playing field and it is enough time for us to catch up with Honda, so I think we'll have a good chance next year," Dennis said.
What does he mean by "catch up with Honda" ??

Admission of a not so good chassis ??

They have a good chassis auto sport ranked them 4th best and with the engine speed they could be a threat to mercedes http://www.autosport.com/news/report.ph ... -barcelona
