- Raikkonen - staying, he's Marchionne's idea. If they want to challenge Merc/RB they should replace him (or both) with 1. Grosjean/Bottas or 2. Grosjean/Rosberg if Mercedes are stupid enough (they're not). It won't happen either way, selling car matters, on track failures don't.
So do you mean that a Grosjean/Bottas combo would be better than Vettel/Raikkonnn? seriously?

I would miss Kimi but I think that a younger driver should replace him.

Wehrlein beat Hamilton? When and where?
What most super talents have in common, is a ridiculous record of the racing records before F1, let's say 30% win ratios in whatever class they are in. Wehrlein doesn't. Maybe all the Mercedes data shoes a different story, but it feels he's not the boy-wonder that they thought he is.

Their Stars and Cars event: http://www.pascal-wehrlein.de/?p=5051&lang=en

Though it might not be serious (the reason it's "beat") - It still shows he's handy in a car. Again, youngest DTM champion, how is that not a staggering achievement? - 30% win ratio is some bollocks you just made up, Vettel wasn't exactly dominant in his early career and he's a 4x WDC.

Its more of an observation then something I made up, but yes, Vettel is the odd one out.

Stars and cars event? Hahaha yes... It's a very good way to measure someone's F1 skills

Yes, exactly this Wehrlein. And no, I don't put much weight in the fun event and who beat who. What matters is F1, in a F1 car. We've seen many GP2 champions, exceptional champions, reach F1 and disappear back into insignificance before. Not that I think Wehrlein is that kind of driver... yet. But so far, his F1 career hasn't been exactly setting anything on fire. This might be difficult in a Manor though.

Still, Wehrlein has time and this is the season 2016/2017 thread. I don't see Wehrlein moving. He is young, he still as time. As does Verstappen.

Assuming Mercedes does entertain the idea of losing Rosberg, the question is who will be the most attractive driver available? IMO that driver is Dan Ricciardo (assuming he can and wants it). He is young, fast and mature and experienced enough. Bottas might be arguably an okay bet too if you are looking for a consistent point scorer, but IMO, a team in Mercedes position shouldn't aim for a "point-scorer" but a young talent, a rising star, someone who might in given time (if he doesn't in his first year already) beat/replace the current top-driver under contract (Hamilton). Putting a driver in your seat is all about a long-term game too. Which is why for instance, I wouldn't put an Alonso in that seat, unless you perhaps want a 1 year or 2 year filler. But why do that if you already have a 3 times world-champion under contract till the end of 2018? Better to secure someone who will take it beyond and if you can get one of the brightest prospects of F1, you will also avoid him driving against you at your competitors team.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Now that 6 races have gone, here's my updated one:
Mercedes: 44 HAM-6 ROS
Ferrari: 5 VET-7 RAI
Red Bull Renault: 3 RIC-33 VES
Williams: 22 BUT-77 BOT
Force India: 11 PER-27 HUL
Renault: 20 MAG-19 MAS
McLaren: 14 ALO-47 VAN
Toro Rosso: 55 SAI-71 GAS
Sauber: Folded
Manor: 94 WEH-88 HAR
Haas: 8 GRO-21 GUT

Changes: Button (McLaren to Williams), Massa (Williams to Renault)

Newcomers: Vandoorne (McLaren), Gasly (Toro Rosso)

Not Returning: Daniil Kvyat (scrapped due to too many errors), Jolyon Palmer (scrapped for too many errors), Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr (Sauber bankrupt and lack of talent), Alexander Rossi (making too much money in Indycar to be paying for back marker drives), Max Chilton (development driver for championship winning Indycar team), Pastor Maldonado (lack of funds), Sauber (ran out of money)
Friendship with Honda ended, Renault is my new (and more reliable) friend.

Mercedes: HAM & ROS
Ferrari: VET & RAI
Red Bull: RIC & VES
Force India: PER & HUL
Renault: GRO & OCO

Williams: BOT &
McLaren: ALO &
Toro Rosso: SAI &
Manor: WEH &
Haas: GUT

The last 5 teams can go either way, many possibilities there..
I'm not convinced that Mclaren will promote Vandoorne and reject Button if he's willing to drive. Also I think Red Bull have a minor problem now because they have no one ready to take the 2nd Toro Rosso seat. Gasly just isn't good enough. Williams have many alternatives: Massa, Button (if rejected by Mclaren) or even Di Resta.

Wouldn't Verstappen be a better fit for that title? I mean both won Barcelona and crashing 1+3 times in Monaco is an achievement that should be honored.

Don't forget crashing at an exebition!

But to be fair, so far Verstappen overtakes more then he takes competitors out, with the exception of Monaco '15, he has only hurt himself and the barrier.

If Sauber survive to next year, it should be Maldonado and Kvyat. At least there would be blue confetti each race!

That's attacking drivers for no reason. How about Raikkonen and Ricciardo? Even more blue confetti guaranteed.
