Since seeing Valtteri hit 351 km/h in FP1, does anyone have any predictions on what the highest speed trap rating will be this weekend?

I don't understand the curb placement on this track. They've made it much slower than it could be, and much less interesting in my opinion. And I don't see see how "safety" could be considered the reason as some of these examples don't involve major breaking points.

Why have they done this? How often do drivers hit the inside wall of a corner as opposed to the outside? Putting curbs in these positions feels like a pointless exercise anyway given the presence of walls. The drivers have no ability to gain an advantage by exceeding track limits because that would mean instant retirement.

Turn 8 is odd, the drivers just straight line the kerb, zero point in the way they have profiled it

I believe there were screws or something sticking out from the kerbs and they were cutting up the tires

there were also sharp edges which they welded later

Mclaren seem to be doing very well considering they are hamstrung by the Honda engine, so they tell us anyway.

Its so that there is 'something' there for the drivers to negotiate on the apex of the corner requiring them to balance their entry point. If it wasn't there then they'd just get their outside wheel as close to (but still outside) the white line on the apex making every corner much shallower.

Imagine the sequence in the image shown above, without the kerb there altogether the drivers would be able to 'straight line' through there with no penalty and no application of skill. At least with a kerb there there is a balancing act to be done of entry speed, aggressiveness over the kerb and steering input.
