This is really interesting bit. For a moment, if we assume that there isn't much between Mercedes and Renault PUs and as Paddy says, RBR is running more wing than Mercedes, which means relatively more downforce on RBR, but the point is, they still are quite far behind on the sector times. If you look at the way the Mercedes car was planted and flowing through those high downforce section, no one can say they had any kind of downforce deficit.
Now, the general understanding is, you look at a car's aero profile and then say, Oh, they have bolted a lot of downforce (more wing). So, it makes me curious now that, if W07's profile doesn't say, they have bolted a lot of wing (aero intensive), but they still manage to out do RBR, who have indeed bolted more wing on. Then either Mercedes are immensely maturing in finding highly efficient downforce, without using a lot of aero bits, that then also allows them better straight line speed, OR, they are now so evolved in their Mechanical grip that, the car is more depending on that Mechanical grip than aero grip and RBR team doesn't have such kind of mechanical expertise in their ranks and hence have to depend on those aero bits to generate downforce, which trades them a significant drag that takes away the straight line speed.
