Next the question is: Where does Allison go? None of the top three nor Mclaren, so that leaves (realistically) Williams or Renault. Renault seems set on recreating the past (as evidenced with Bob Bell), but Williams would be interesting. This is a team whose development path has stalled and struggles with tyres. Williams would have a keen eye on those lotus cars with unbelievable tyre wear, plus the added bonus of more British-ness.
- He's not, when did Button become this superquick driver? Both are slipping because of age but it was Masa that had more one lap highlights in recent years , pole in Austria, closest to Merc in Brazil and overall more pressure. Button is no more than solid point scorer, mistake prone when pushed or pushing(2 x Maldo).
- let's be real they wouldn't be hiring him for sporting reason, replacing one ~36 year old for another, the one that is often fussy with the car, for what a year? These are marketing and nationality reasons. IMO at this stage it's easier to keep a driver than hire a new one - adjustments take more time. Williams' driver management looks weirder and weirder.
Those Lotus car were in the different tyres/aero/engine era. Williams hired some people from Lotus too, didn't help them? Bringing Allison won't magically cure their tyre management. Others can pay him more and offer more resources.
