Toro Rosso STR11 Ferrari

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Agreed.
The engine cover being that short will minimise the skin friction losses in the airflow towards the RW.

However, this got me thinking: Why, then, does the RB12 engine cover use the maximum legal engine cover size? They have no shark fin.
RB, being the aero gods they are, must have thought of this loss. But it could also be a necessity for the Renault engine underneath.

Isn't that winglet outside the free aero zone?

Edit, apparently not, it must extend backwards rather than sideways.

The front wing and side pod flow conditioners are new by the look of it.

The up-shifted sidepod really reminds me their previous "floating sidepod design" as I noticed they've gone a really tidy and tight package too

Some very talented engineers at faenza but my gosh it all seems overly complex.
