Williams FW38 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Hmmm, no low downforce bits on the car for now... Will they make the same mistake as last year, when they ran full wings to make up for lack of speed in the middle sector, only to make the car a sitting duck on the straights

I think they will, with the windtunnel dedicated to 2017 i doubt they found time to focus on a lowish downforce trim that runs once/twice a year.

Seems like a lot of wing for Monza, but that seems to be the trend for 2016(i don't know why), bigger wings than usual all around the paddock.

Is power getting to a point where drag stopped mattering as much? That would help explain the recent form...

I would say since 2014 (at least for Mercedes), but it kinda makes sense knowing that these cars have fixed gear ratios, so it's pointless to reduce drag if you 're going to be limited by that.

I believe there isn't much difference between high and low downforce package on most of the cars; some teams keep the gurney flaps on even on Monza.
