[-o< Gene Haas has admitted he would have been better off buying an existing Formula 1 team rather than establishing his squad as a completely new entry

After repeatedly saying that, all things considered, entering F1 as a new team was the best option available. Please make up your mind, Gene!

Magnussen will be joining Haas in 2017 on a 2-year deal

He will take Gutierrez's seat to partner Grosjean.

Decent decision by Haas. Magnussen is a decent driver, although a bit sporadic. Not sure why they put him on a 2-year deal though. If he doesn't start to deliver regularly they're stuck with him..

I think Magnussen will have to up his game considerably, especially in qualifying. The best news is Guttierez is gone. He just did not deliver. Ferrari will be aware of that, and surely drop him from their driver programme sooner or later.

What did Guiterrez say on the radio that pissed Gunther off so much?

"OK, something is really wrong."
"We are looking on it, looking on it."
"Fix this ****ing problem!!!"
"Come on. Come on, Mariachi, try to stay calm. We are trying to do our best."
"Yeah, but it's going crazy, the car, in the corners!"
"I understand, I understand."

Because a one year deal is what he would have gotten at Renault.

Just a pitty 9 out of 10 times you only can buy a troubled F1 team and need to do large investments yourself. His results would have been similar to Renault's...

If Haas had run bought Manor last year and still did what he did this year he would have been eligible for

2015 - $69 million
2016 - $60 million
2017 - $90 million

As against
2015 - NA
2016 - $0
2017 - $0

His spend would have been
2015 - $50 million
2016- $100 million
2017 - $100 million

What ever problems there were it is not as big as this $-31 million or $-200 million at the end of 2017 season

This is an argument I haven't considered yet.

If Manor was bought by Haas, we might have had a Red Bull Mercedes

I wonder if the two year deal for Kevin was in anticipation of Grojean leaving after 2017. Do you think Renault may still want him back?

Of course Renault wants Grosjean back, but he's probably had enough Renault dealings to last him a lifetime(they treated him SO GREAT in 2009 remember).

As a fan I prefer he starts his own team. It added another team to the grid. If he bought manor that would be one less car behind him.
