Just got my first simulation running with V098e so fingers crossed my changes have not completely stuffed my cooling flow if it has not I am looking for a drop in drag and better airflow for the rear of the car to bring my CoP back to an acceptable position.

It really does amaze me how you guys at the top are getting the downforce numbers you are without the drag. Well done.

Just out of curiosity how many simulations are people running between races? myself between race 3 and 4 it was just the 1 simulation but between race 2 and 3, i must have run about 10.

Between a minimum of 2 simulations and a maximum of 10.

1-It didn't get the monitoring surfaces. I moved then into the folder by hand. I'm confused about the naming info I've seen. What's right?

2-It's not opening a single one of my STLs, here the beginning of one:

Code: Select all

solid
facet normal -1.000000 0.000000 0.000000
outer loop

vertex 2.166200 -0.375000 0.397000
vertex 2.166200 -0.375000 0.406700
vertex 2.166200 -0.365100 0.406700
endloop

endfacet
facet normal -1.000000 0.000000 0.000000
outer loop

vertex 2.166200 -0.375000 0.397000
vertex 2.166200 -0.365100 0.406700
vertex 2.166200 -0.365100 0.397000
endloop

endfacet
facet normal -1.000000 0.000000 0.000000
outer loop

vertex 2.166200 -0.375000 0.387200
vertex 2.166200 -0.375000 0.397000
vertex 2.166200 -0.365100 0.397000
endloop

endfacet
I ran all of the through Materlialise Magics.

TIA for any help

It did create the case and run OF, to fail after 2 hours running.

I'll go over there and open thread, thanks.

Am I wrong and I missed something, or the new PP utility doesn't show the CoP?

About the monitor surfaces naming, can someone please enlighten me?

As we are going to LeMans 4 long straigts are important .
I would like to ask how much power does have MVRC car.
I know it is 540hp+144hp (ERS) =684hp. But those 144hp from ERS are avaliable for all time or just for acceleration time? (lets say for certain time for example 40 seconds for hole circuit)
I m thinking about to do not run out of engine revs at those long straights.
For example Variante has CdA=0,724 and with 684hp his teoretical max speed is around 230mph and mvrc car is geared to 215mph so he does not use his full potential of his low drag design
Thanks
I did a quick simulation with Cd.A of 0.72 and Cl.A of 4.0... the speed trace graph is below, with the highest speed obtained being 207mph prior to the first Chicane on the Mulsanne.

Image

At Cd.A = 0.65 (Cl.A =4.0) I get a top speed at the same point of 210mph... So I think we should be OK with the standard gearing.... (famous last words?!)

By the way; I calculate the theoretical (infinitely long straight) maximum speed of a Cd.A=0.72 MVRC car a bit lower than you do... did you include allowances for the rolling resistance and the transmission efficiency?

Thank you Machine for response.
Yeas you are right I just calculate horsepower to overcome aerodynamics drag in big hurry :) (I was sitting in waiting room in Doctor). If a assume 10% (rolling + transmission resitant ) Variante teoretical top speed is around 220mph.

Those Porsche curves are so fast 160mph !

The monitoring surface is a slice in the middle of the heat exchanger, it is no longer the inlet and outlet of the cooling.
For this, I have the name HX_monitor.stl

I did it like this and it was moved into the porous media folder now.

Is there a proper naming convention for these surfaces to be moved into the right folder (monitoring_surfaces) when creating a new case folder?

That's a car with a Cd.A of 0.72 and a Cl.A of 4.0.... 33% more downforce than Variante's Sao Paulo car, so not really "realistic" (again... I wait to be proved wrong!!!)... I wanted to make sure we weren't hitting the rev limiter if the car comes out of Tetre Rouge really fast and has low drag for the following straight...

EDIT: Just imagine how fast a current LMP1 car would be if it had active aerodynamics!!!!

Looks like I forgot that. You can calculate it with the front and rear down force values:
CoP=3/((CL_frt/CL_rr)+1)

There is no naming convention. Just put the surface into the monitoring_surfaces folder. If the GUI somehow moves it somewhere else that is a bug in the GUI. Maybe HP-Racing will update the GUI to the new MantiumWFlow version soon.

Yeah easier just to put the files in the correct folder then tell the GUI to use an existing folder
