What the heck did Williams do there yesterday then, cruising around with the red (race) tires in Q1?!
my mistake, I missed the last sentence here:

These are the tyres that Pirelli has said must be used at some point in the race:
One set of P Zero Yellow soft
One set of P Zero Red supersoft
Each driver must have both these sets available for the race, and must use at least one of them.

http://www.fia.com/news/f1-pirelli-anno ... abi-grands

so only one of those sets is mandatory

Why not? Getting away (Spain, Spain, Spain, Spain) and not getting away is very much part of racing in 2016 F1. The fact that after Germany (Ros-Vers) and Malaysia (Ros-Raik) teams/FIA/Ecclestone have a nerve to recycle 'let them race' gimmick shows that F1's open corruption can only be compared to boxing.

Speaking of open corruption and recycling, Horner brought back idea of winning races by bigger margin by slowing down. I think he should first demonstrate it on his own team. Looking forward to Ricciardo pushing Verstappen back. The part when Ferraris and Red Bulls are wheezing past Rosberg once he is close in front (how?) and active Mercedes involvement (how?) are small details that escaped Horner.

Rosberg will of course be extra careful (like Alonso against Button in '10  ) but if I were him I would be worried more about start/first lap and other drivers than Hamilton. Penalties too, I wouldn't cut corners in his place.

You can not beat Merc with a one stop unless there is a safety car at lap 4 or 5, that allows tire changes for the cars behind and pushes the Mercs with the US badly into traffic.
One stop may be a solution for P11+ cars with good tire usage...but I see none of them as Williams has no new SS. Button would have been my bet in the past, but the McLaren is tire eating.
Wynters wrote:Hmm, Hulkenberg right behind Verstappen who will, in turn, be itching to get past the Ferraris...odds on Hulk making it around the first corner with his front wing intact?
I think Hulk is happy if he makes the first corner with 4 intact wheels on the car. An undamaged front wing is just bonus.

Strange...but they also allow a 1-Stop, so maybe just no limit?

Agree!

Brake drum?

May you elaborate if you have any further info?

Booth said it was a brake drum problem fouling the wheel rim and it was specific to this GP. He also said that the issues was sorted, but Sainz suggested that they had to compromise something to enable them to race this weekend because the FIA were suggesting they would not be able to compete on safety grounds.

I don´t think that´s even comparable as that incident had a lot of karmic return factor :P

It´s not the same doing something like that as a first, or doing something like that to the driver who did it to you previously. When we fans see it as a first we usually think ´that was dirty´, but when we see it in return of a similar incident between same drivers, at lest in my case I thought ´what goes around comes around´, or ´two can play that game´, and smile :D

Not even comparable

PS: actually I think that´s what any driver should do. If stewarts decide that sort of maneouver is not punishable, as a driver you must take advantage of anything you can do within the rulebook. If stewarts say that´s withing the rulebook, any reason to not do it?

Interesting, thanks

Spanish journalist asked him about a last minute suspension change as part of their lack of perfomance in qualifying and he agreed, so not sure how that could affect brake drum but maybe that´s what he was talking about :?:

Have to agree with you Iotar, how Rosberg didn't get a penalty is beyond me, though I didn't see it as corruption.

No talk about the WDC in this topic. Offenders will be dealt with after the race.

Wasn't there the same problem with these chrome brake coolings before? Did they run them in between?

Very dishonorable race for Hamilton. Well done Rosberg for WDC!
