Photo Comparison TF108 - TF107

Post

The new Toyota TF108 is much slimmer ( even copied the Mc Laren's engine blade skate fin to match the Toblerone rule )and more "aerodynamic" ( with new front wing and nose and slimmer sidepods ) .

Also the team has a new driver Timo Glock (not rookie as he competed in the past with Jordan)and Test Driver .

Regular Podium finishes seems to be a realistic goal . A GP win maybe , who can tell =D>

Well, it's good

to see that teams can and do revise their plans radically from time to time. It's almost as if we were juxtaposing cars from two different teams. Funny though, that ideas seem to go in a sort of a merry-go-round ... Toyota have adopted some ideas rejected by McLaren, Ferrari have adopted some ideas rejected by Toyota. A sort of an ongoing design discussion on the merits of different approaches between the teams.

The car is longer, in accordance with the prevailing trend. In a way it's a pity the short wheelbase philosophy didn't work out for them, it was a bit of original thinking from the team. The rear wing structure is clearly lighter, every little bit helps when shifting the CoG forwards.

I do have a request for bar555, btw. When Williams gets their new challenger ready (they're a bit behind in the schedule), could you see if it made sense to compare last year's and this year's Williams to the TF108? Personally, I'm very interested in seeing how much the two teams influence each other - and in what things they've arrived at different conclusions.

An off-topic notion - It's been reported recently that the executive chaiman of an Icelandic business group Baugur, Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson, has personally acquired a third of Williams. This could potentially turn out to be a very important development for F1 as a whole.

IMO it's about effin time toyota changed their philosophy as their car has looked the same for 4 years now, and has never been successful. It looks much more efficient now without all the bits&bobs everywhere, I mean the car looks like it has been designed by one team, not five. I think they've got it this time.

An article on Williams selling to Baugur Group.

What is Toblerone rule btw?

The skate blade engine fin fullfills the minimum width rule in this area

Image

An F1 engine cover looks like a TOBLERONE chocolate ( has a pyramid shape ) so you can figure out now the origin of "Toblerone rule"

I will try to prepare a FW30-TF108-FW29 photo comparison project but checkered be patient to gather a few good pictures first .

My purpose is to make photo comparisons for all 2008 cars , i think it is something that all will like to , don't you :?:

hey dude nice work man...one thing i noticed is...i am not sure how to put it but...the chimneys as i call it ( the openings on the upper portion of the Sidepods) are diff for all the 3 cars in the side view... even their angle of attack and also the shape

my question is how does it effect the aerodynamics???
