What engine does P1 use?
V8 developed and built by Ricardo. Quite an interesting story actually. Based on a Nissan engine developed for Indycar by Tom Walkinshaw Racing (According to Wikipedia).

Sorry but...

A PU manufacturer providing exactly same unit to their competitors would be utterly stupid, maybe when they need to improve and develop their PU, but when they´re figthing for titles.... no way any company will equal things with their own competitors voluntarily when they´ve done best job and enjoy best PU

The PU was exaclty the same as required by the rules. And even the maps were optimized for all customers. Andy cowell (or was it Eric?) admitted though that McLaren used Exxon fuel and lubricants. So maybe or maybe not the engine was a few horsepower down. But not by much. Because obviously if they were you would have heard Ron complaining. Anyway whatever that small power loss was the chassis sucked so much that they couldn't beat red bull who was like more than 100hp down.

Whitout special engine maps and whitout Petronas...it was around 30hp.

Actually more like 10 HP.

Stop using PU from best manufacturer to start a new and risky adventure with a new manufacturer with no experience with current rules looks like a huge complain to me

"3rd best chassis" say rivals.

https://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2016/12/ ... d-turmoil/

There were all sorts of claims about how great the McLaren chassis was, claims that are hard to quantify as the engine clearly held the car back, but rival engineers who competed against the team this season highlighted many details and steps that appeared to take the chassis to third best in class, albeit some way behind the Mercedes and Red Bull, which were on a similar level

This is getting almost comical. What rivals? What engineers? I would value what a rival senior engineer says over what a team principal or driver might say as IMO, they would have other agendas rather than to be objective from race telemetry.

"We thought we could overtake both McLarens by switching to new tires during the virtual safety car period. However we could not overtake Alonso. The difference in power by the Honda PU and ours is nowhere as big as talked about by journalists in public media. To me, it appears people are shifting blame for McLaren's deficiencies onto Honda unfairly," Jun Matsuzaki (senior engineer/tire management specialist at Force India). After the Malaysian GP.

"This MP4-31 is like pushing a brick........" senior engineer at McLaren (name withheld), during after race briefing at Chinese GP.
So really was the MP4-31 the third best chassis? And why is it so important to state that? Do you see other teams claiming we has the best, second best, fourth best, etc. chassis? What's the agenda? Who's really behind this speculation? Points to ponder.

To prove Honda was the problem more than Mclaren

To prove to who? :? :? Do people honestly believe that "rival engineers" or journalists have a better knowledge than McLaren Honda engineers themselves as to the exact deficiencies in both the chassis and PU? What happened to logic and common-sense?

People actually believe the Hogwash from Boulier that Mclaren has a better chassis than Ferrari?

Sainz and the Torro-Rosso had indicated multiple times this year that in slow speed "Chassis" circuits they would have an advantage over Mclaren. Who's to say they wouldn't have beaten Mclaren in the standings if they had a Honda PU?

Actually rival teams can get quite a lot of information from gps traces and engine sound

No more information than we can get ourselves. As far as engine sound, more than race telemetry?

Looking at Alonso onboards it doesnt look like that car has fundamental rear suspension problema....in fact it looks like a car whit the least need to do stearing wheel corrections that Alonso has driven in a decade.

I suggest re-watching Suzuka qualifying and the race.
