Mercedes AMG F1 W08 EQ Power +

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I personally believe this is nothing more than testing material, either to house a camera, load sensors, flow sensors or perhaps even a way to evaluate the use of a shark fin. I mostly suspect the latter honestly.

That's an interesting wing.
No way
Even with this weird thing its by far the best looking car and with a high degree of development. It looks also quite aggressive as I had expexted with the new regulations. Nice.

Exactly what I had in mind. Could be used to stall the rear wing, or perhaps it's main effect is while using the DRS.

Or... its nothing at all.
Yes, maybe it stalls the wing when on a straight, and when in yaw it allows the rear wing to produce DF?
very interesting but would they really show that already, and is this even legal, maybe they are simulating an effect that will be achieved in another way, which they are not wanting to reveal yet
Personally I think its nothing, because it makes no sense to show it already.
But im always willing to conspire :D And yes I also had the thought that it could be to simulate an effect achived in another way later on. But they can't really tell without a pitot array right??

I doubt it, it sits way to high above the rear Wing.

My thoughts as well. It's quite a bit higher from the looks of it.

Guys, is it legal to have a sharkfin (like we have seen so far) with bull horns on each sides?

I remember Villeneuve complaining bitterly about the vertical fins the engineers took them off his car, they were worth a lot of lap time so he shut up and had his engineers put them back on.

Nope, that area of bodywork must be maximum 125mm wide and I believe it has minimum radius limitations, so I would say not even tiny bull horns would be allowed there.

There's probably not much in between the tip of the BMW engine cover horns and the Merc T Bar.

These devices appear to perform the same task to me.
