i think there were some questions about Mikes abilities as a technical director a few years ago when he moved to Benetton but I think he has proved himself worthy by now...... and keep in mind how complex F1 is so it isnt a straightforward thing to turn a teams fortunes around.... look how long it took Benetton/Renault to do it.... Mclaren seem to have managed a quick turnaround and Williams did last year as well at Monaco but they have engineering depth and F1 experience going back decades which is worth much more than cash....

They had kept this very well in secret, that kind of major change takes long time to make and usually the press gets some rumours beforehand... They were running with the old nose yesterday btw.
It's going to be a very exciting race, Hockenheim, Mclaren with a new engine and major new aerodynamics. If they were good in silverstone then i can only guess what their pace will be in Germany

the finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat reported about the new nose already last week, so the news was leaked

Excellent progress by McLaren. It's the first time that I 've seen time done something to the car that makes it different from the ones they started their season with.
The car's existing low, swooping nose has been replaced by a more conventional arrangement that bears a passing resemblance to front of the Ferrari.
I don't think it resembles the Ferrari's front, infact it looks more like Williams except a bit lower.

The nose reminds me of the BAR006's with a very low drooping nose
Bring back wider rear wings, V10s, and tobacco advertisements

Come on, it's nothing like the williams or bar(or ferrari) it's not rounded, it's angular and very flat in the front. To me it resembles most the line that mclaren had before the whole mp4-18, mp4-19 fashion.

Just look at the picture on top of this page, the one that shows it rfom the side. are you telling me that's what the ferrari or bar or williams nose looks like? Not a single bit. Looks pretty downforcy, by the way :D

My thoughts exactly. Pretty traditional Mclaren. Is the nose now the leading edge of the car? A little disappointed to see the anteater go, it was a lot more distinctive, and f1 needs different design approaches that look different.

By the way I thought the concept behind the anteater was to remove as much of the bodywork away from the wing to increase its effectiveness--similar to the ideas behind the rear wing in recent years, is this accurate? I also thought that the anteater was designed around the W wing that was used on the Mp4 18 and initially on the 19. The reversion to the U wing was telling in that regard.

Actually, the use of the anteater nose was to maximize the efficiency of the twin keel concept, getting as much air as possible between the keel. Really not that different in idea than what Williams did by chopping off the nose, but obviously the execution of the two teams were different. I am curious about the new nose McLaren has adopted, what is the point of the twin keel now, I would except all the aerodynamic advantage of the twin keel is not migitated with this new nose.
