McLaren MCL32 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. If I understand correctly they can use turning vanes like the ones on the 'forehead' and further along the tub of the SF70H to help mitigate this - to stop pressure loss if that is what you meant? In the MP-23 they actually used the forward part of the top wishbone to turn the air down from on high.

I really like what they have done to the front suspension.

Why did McLaren ditch the open ended louvers on RW?

Diario As has a piece on some funny texture, defects, hidden parts or something else, likely "closed holes" in the rear wing's end plates:

They literally says that nobody tells what they are for.
Just dropping it here. Of course, this being the launch car, it might mean nothing at all or be for testing equipment.

The clearance in the engine cavity is utterly vast. Does this suggest an inherent cooling issue, or that this isn't actual rear packaging?

Hi, I have been checking the overview picture of the official pictures and compering with side views from the launch (twitter, etc....) and the official pictures and I can't find on side views what are these marked in red, are there on the floor? or are there aero aids attached to the body or to the barge board?

also I like the shape of the mirrors doing the logo of Mclaren over the livery from this point of view

I would guess they are going to start with a wide opening to the body work at the rear, then progressively optimise the cover. Or perhaps that's just for the launch spec car and something entirely different will roll out of the pits.

I've been trying to find more pics of these as well. My theory is that these are vortext generators to better close the floor similar to these vortexes.

Aren't that just the rear wing mount points? Don't think there's anything special there. They are even on the launch pics.

Check out the BAR Honda 006 and 007. They control the flow under the floor. Mclaren seems to have merge the barge board to the front of the floor, but they seem to come off the lower rear edge of the barge board.

*edit

Or obviously last years Mercedes :D . Also after googling it was the Honda Racing RA107. I think they were all Geoff Willis cars though?

RA107 was Shuhei Nakamoto's responsibility, first one after Willis left. Don't think that Willis would want to be associated with "the worst F1 car that had major funding" (along with the RA108) ! Allegedly due to wind tunnel problems. Now the RA109 was something else ...

They're mounting points for different wing planes, and AoAs.
