Red Bull RB13 TAG Heuer

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I would understand if there was a change in livery, but that's not even the case here.

Still things are a bit odd with this RB13, nose cone unusually blunt compare to other rebull iteration since 2014 and the beginning of the thumb era.
The pito tube has an interesting wire/try-pod shape, weight saving, cleaning the air coming out of the S-duct?

I don't have the RB12 precisely in mind but the access area for the suspension look rather large, same trick as Mercedes las year?
Side pod look tiny and airbox look a bit larger than last year I think.

Can't really say much until tomorrow when the real thing will most likely hit the track.
i could imagine teams might actually test like this too, rather 'basic'. i think personally that would be to confirm and check certain shapes and things on the car from a neutral standpoint, also to see whether computer calculations are correct in real life.

teams might have multiple solutions ready and need to decide what would serve best. if you then have for example a completely clean floor and completely clean sidepods, you have a base model to drive around with and gather data.
then, you mount either solution every run, and then gather data again.

you then get to compare the data and analyze to decide what to go for.

you're right, looked like the normal shape with an opening in it.

so does that mean there actually is NOT an opening below the airbox?

Is it only me, or is there something wrong? It Looks like the lower part (from Hisense onwards) doesn't suit or belong to the upper part of the Picture...hm...

Nose remindes me of the RB10 just horizontal instead of vertical

I believe that the whole vanity panel is just a dummy to disguise the real layout.

thats the exit "bulge" from the s-duct that makes it look off

Note the winglets on the frontwing:
they obviously use the one they tested in FP during the 2016 Belgian GP

The car has too many similarities with Force India VJM10, I think the "Guru" guy is working there with Newey's mind. =D> =D>

Both the cars bet on more downforce, than on straight line speed. Will be interesting to see VJM10 now with that massively upgraded Mercedes engine. =P~

Mark my words RB and SFI cars will kick the Ferrari's butt early in the season. =D>

What interests me most about this car is hoe similar it is to the McLaren in philosophy (at least from what I can see in the few pictures so far). The barge board area is all about creating lateral flow similar to the McLaren and pushing flow from the beginning of the floor outwards (it would appear that way anyway).

Rake level also looks fairly high. Slightly surprised that the barge boards are so small however RB were very careful with the camera angles and lighting to hide that entire area of the car.

Cood additional cooling (nosetip) be required for front suspension?
