I'd say it's most likely a valve within the oil system than the actual pump, unless of course it's an experimental pump, and they're doing something clever with it

That would be great, thanks.

In that case, I wonder why they didn't swap for the sake of running :?
I look forward to finding out what the issue was.

Maybe they weren't built up ready to slot in?

In the past they had issues with the oil system being able to pump oil under the G's created by the car, if I recall correctly. I have the memory of a goldfish, so I may not...

I think it's more likely that they initially wanted to run with the same PU for as long as possible for proper testing. So the ideal scenario would have been to identify the problem, fix it, and reinstall the same PU for additional runs. Replacing it was probably a final decision based on their diagnosis and expected time to fix.

Won't be long now, I'd say they'll have 2hrs of running time at this rate

Yeah that could be the case, not sure they wouldn't have one engine fully built ready and two in spares though. The information did seem to suggest a little that replacing the engine was a later decision. Maybe the way it is reported was misleading and you are right.

Is it me or does it look like Merc are running a very low rpm limit today across all the engines? That's 3 Merc cars all recording 276.9kph at the speed trap...and the Mercedes itself is as close as makes no difference too.

Very peculiar. Can't think of anything it would go through to other than the rear of the intake, so perhaps some sort of bypass that releases air at high speed?

With the lower rear wing, are they testing to see if venting some of the hot air out of the top and let the T-wing loft it so it doesn't interfere is better than venting out of the rear of the sidepods given there's less room from the bigger diffuser and tyres?
