Quiet sure that is at start finish line and not end of straight

If they 10 at start finish and another 10 by end of straight, that would be about 310 kph

2005 was about 320 kph

I checked 2016 from the same source, they are 10kph off compared to 2016:

This little research would have saved a couple of posts and discussions (my apologies), but hey: It´s about the fun of discussing things, isn´t it

Shark fins and T-wings to be banned on safety grounds?

Post

Shark fins and T-wings to be banned on safety grounds? - Development blog

Following the launch of the first few cars in launch week, voices were raised that shark fins, engine cover sails, or whatever they would need to be called, should be banned from Formula One. F1 teams themselves didn't agree however, as Red Bull's attempts to get them banned last summer failed, most likely because some teams were already happily exploring the aerodynamic possibilities of such engine cover extensions.

Now, with testing underway, and literally every car underway with one shark fin or another, and in some cases with additional T-wings attached to them, some in the paddock expect that the fins may well get banned ahead of the start of the season. Such short notice regulation change is possible, but only on the grounds of safety.

Footage shot during today's testing at Barcelona, in this case without a T-wing on the VJM10, shows that there may indeed be a risk of wings breaking off. It would of course be possible to make them more rigid, but such footage could be used by Charlie Whiting to get rid of the appendages.

Translated with Google Translate from Toni Cuquerella's tweet:

How to read the test times F1:
1 Amount of fuel? ± 2.7s
2 DRS active or not? ± 0.8s
3 Delta tires? ± 2.2s
4 Time of day? ± 0.6s

They should ban the wings as we might see multiple layers of them very soon. It will look ugly and we are just getting happy in terms of F1 car´s looks.

The shark fins should not be banned though as they might be integral part of cooling philosophies (Merc will not be the only team).

Short term rule changes are shitty, but who wants to see those flycatchers in front of the rear wing.

I thought the exact same thing when I watched this earlier. That fin is warping all over the place.

They might as well ban the front wings as well. They move and vibrate.

I don't think the fins are any more dangerous than the numerous other fins these cars have. Just because they wobble (in the case of the shark fins) or are very thin (in the case of the T-wings) doesn't mean they are weak.

So quick update from:

Red Bull (C. Horner): First had a sensor failure, then they had battery issues.... Could this one again be Newey's tightly packed design?

McLaren ( E.Boullier): Can't run the second engine have to wait until Honda has finished their investigation on the issue. Called the issue Surprising, disappointing and unexpected.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

Am I the only one who thinks the Merc fin looks quite sexy?

What on earth... so initial diagnosis clarly didn't identify the problem, and McLaren went to put the second PU in without confirming that it wasn't a general issue with all PUs?

And it sounds like they're blaming Honda for the delay?
