Except if you do a 1,20.1 (Bottas just now), which is 0.2 of the lap record ? (well absolute fastest lap on the layout)
These cars are brutally fast

ohh wait.
Aparently Massa did a 1:18.339 in 2008 Testing.
So 1.7 seconds away from that...

This shows how much more pace the top teams must have in hand and how pointless keeping score really is at this point.

Given what the Red Bull car was doing down the straight i'm pretty sure they'll be nailed too, the inspection just hasn't reached them yet.

They might even have done it on purpose, put a system that is sure to be caught, try to sneak a less agressive one through.
I'm not so sure there would be much mileage in doing it on purpose.

I think Red Bull pushed the limits last year with the rake they ran, and this is how Ferrari picked up on it over the winter.
The tell tale sign is the SF70 Ferrari is running more rake than any previous Ferrari I have seen before.
They must have tried hundreds of different suspension set ups to get replicate the effect....but couldn't.

Don't forget with the tea tray being so much shorter this year the teams are not as limited by the forward plank wear as they were last year.

Everyone has the ability to run more rake now just based on geometry alone.

Good point,

But the problem Ferrari would have come across would be how to get the car to squat from the increased rear ride height.
So while it is higher due to the tea tray being shorter, the problem of reducing the height of the rear is now a larger.

Looking at the stream that was taken down this morning, the Ferrari seems to be taking a different line though turn 11 than the rest, its wider entry and mid, but tighter on exit, where as the Mercedes tighter on entry and mid corner but wider though the exit. The Mercedes can get its power down much earlier though.

The Mercedes is much more the total package as it looks planted and on rails, where the rest are clearly a quarter to half step behind, the Sauber is a full step behind, but closer than last years car.

Was the chicane before the last corner there yet in 2008?

And why would they do that?

That's the lap record gone. Well, actually, it's faster than the 2010 pole, I think massa did a quicker time at one point in testing. Interestingly, I don't think ferrari are out of touch with that time. They're only 1,8 away on the mediums so you'd have to think they'd get down there on the SS. I feel that Merc are still out in front but that Ferrari aren't too far off it.
