KR 2 sec faster than lap record, that's huge

Post

Today I see that at Bahrain, Kimi put in some times that were 2 secs/lap clear of last years best times. Any insight?
It's got to be more than just light tanks. We haven't seen a jump like that since the tire wars a few years ago.
Maybe this new age of no driver aids will finally unleash what Kimi could really do in an F1 car (as long as he knows how to save his tires)

last year in testing (a bit later in february with colder weather) mass put a 1.29.9xxx.

The lap record in 2004 is a race record.

So far seeing at the stints it seems KR did 1:32 constitently which is quite impressive last year in race mass did 1.34 as a best race lap.

We'll see anyway.

Copied "brutally" from Autosport:
At 14.25 Raikkonen kicked off a race simulation ending at 16.10, at the end of his 77th lap. He drove a few 1:31's, a lot of low 1:32's and very little laps towards the 1:33. This indicates that the F2008 is already one second faster than the F2007 was.

Some of the good performance is down to the 2008 medium Bridgestone tyres which are close to the characteristics of the 2007 soft tyre but have a greater consistency on one of the most abrasive circuits of all, also due to the sand.

Here is a Massa stint from the 2007 Bahrain test with new Ferrari aero recorded on Feb28:

From ITV-f1.com, the only picture I could find of Ferrari testing in Bahrain.
