McLaren MCL32 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Re: McLaren MCL32 Honda

Post

I saw a video from the test where pretty much every car was having that sort of oversteer when gettin on the throttle.

Hopefully it's just a mapping issue, although it would not be good to see that on day three. If McLaren wasn't able to sort out the suspension issues they supposedly had last year, then they need to review that department asap. The car doesn't look to have anything wrong aerodynamically, so if they have the suspension issues that they reportedly have for such a long time, something is seriously wrong with their design.

Edit:

Some sort of NACA duct there on the floor or just optical illusion?

Once again this thread is going off course. Discussion about testing should be on the testing thread. Discussion about suspension should be on the suspensions thread etc. Some posts have been removed, and posts that are not on the specific car and its hardware will be removed.
Thank you

It's an IR sensor aimed at the rear tyre.

Too low res. You can only see the paint drops due to gravity.

i know you cant see it that well, but i dont think they painted the area beneath the sidepod inlet, so it indicates they succeeded in guiding the air downwards with the help of the suspension arms and the horisontal flowconditioner attatcehd to the front bargeboard

Its not necessarily looking for good or bad flow. They would know it's good if they put the part on the car. They are more looking for how effective the part is in reality. I think that section of the barge board is like a wing that should create some downwash downstream at a point. They may be checking to see if the flow shapes out just as they predicted.
For Sure!!

Yes, they are guiding the flow down towards the floor and sidepod undercut. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes are doing it as well, albeit in completely different ways...

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

From Honda's twitter:

Is that a new front wing? The colour of the outer winglets on the front wing end plate has changed (orange --> black).
Also they mounted sensors on the rear wing.

Not a good Picture bt the FW Endplates don't look new to me, just less orange and more black.

The frontal Edge of the Main Plane looks a bit different though. https://twitter.com/HondaRacingF1/statu ... 0405101568 Edit: better Picture
