Not necessarily. I'd settle for 4 seconds down by the time the season gets to the Spain race weekend.FW17 wrote:Last years pole was 1:22:000Wass85 wrote:I think those that predicted we will see them in the 1:17's are being very optimistic.Restomaniac wrote:The problem is that we are not getting like for like.
It seems Mercedes, Redbull and Ferrari don't want to go directly head to head. It's all guesswork ATM
Rules were changed to get this down by at least 5 seconds, if 1:17:000 does not happen it is a mess up
A 1.20 before doing a 16 lap stint, on day one of the second test - that just convinces me more that the outright pace is in the 17's, not less.Wass85 wrote:I think those that predicted we will see them in the 1:17's are being very optimistic.Restomaniac wrote:The problem is that we are not getting like for like.danielk wrote:Just to get an idea what times we might see. Hamilton did a 1:20.4 at the beginning of a 16 lap stint. Do we have any idea as to how much the fuel affect is this year? if its 0.1 per lap then you can take 1.5 seconds off that time to give an idea of the minimum time it could potentially do.

Both Ferrari and RedBull have shorter wheel base...Wass85 wrote:I'm sure Hamilton was drifting on purpose was he? The Ferrari and Redbull both look glued to the track. Hamilton didn't really do much laps today, a sign they are lost with the set-up?Restomaniac wrote:Why exaggerate it?Wass85 wrote:
It was on the sky live update, at 10:47. I might have been exaggerating slightly but they definitely mentioned Hamilton was drifting coming out of the chicane.
Drifting out of a corner is one thing being all over the place is another.
They were predicted to be 5 seconds faster than the 2015 cars not the 2016 cars, 1:17's just ain't happening.FW17 wrote:Last years pole was 1:22:000Wass85 wrote:I think those that predicted we will see them in the 1:17's are being very optimistic.Restomaniac wrote:The problem is that we are not getting like for like.

So the Mercedes are sacrificing low speed traction for high speed stability?Mr.G wrote:Both Ferrari and RedBull have shorter wheel base...Wass85 wrote:I'm sure Hamilton was drifting on purpose was he? Agree, they are making a fool out of themselves.McL-H wrote:I have officially lost my faith in the McLaren Honda project. McLaren better get Renault or Mercedes engines for next year, and persuade BMW to develop an engine for 2020.
There are just no more excuses for Honda to mess up so much. Third year in a row, my gosh.
Can mclaren sue them for lack of performance and reliability? not trying to stir up anything but just wanted to know if something like that can legally happen.Santozini wrote:Agree, they are making a fool out of themselves.McL-H wrote:I have officially lost my faith in the McLaren Honda project. There is no place in F1 for such incompetence
Can you please wait at least until we can see how the car perform?McL-H wrote:I have officially lost my faith in the McLaren Honda project. McLaren better get Renault or Mercedes engines for next year, and persuade BMW to develop an engine for 2020.

Almost certainly not. For starters Honda are reportedly paying McLaren a massive amount of money anyway. But their contract will have clauses that Honda cannot guarantee performance etc.vas_04614 wrote:Can mclaren sue them for lack of performance and reliability? not trying to stir up anything but just wanted to know if something like that can legally happen.Santozini wrote:Agree, they are making a fool out of themselves.McL-H wrote:I have officially lost my faith in the McLaren Honda project. Let's look at last year's race situation and let's exclude the Mercs from the equation as they did not do a single lap in race. We had Ricciardo's Red bull had the best qualitying time of 1m22.860s. In the race, the first stint was all around 1m30.xxx. The last stint was in 1m28.xxx. As he was stuck behind Vettel, let's assume it could have been 1m26.xxx. That is a roughly, 4 to 5 seconds difference between the quali time and the last stint times.danielk wrote:Just to get an idea what times we might see.
