The Hamilton McLaren design? In my opinion, it's the second most 'iconic' yellow lid. It definitely ranks in my top 10/top 5 lids of all time. I really really like Alonso's helmet as well. It's a gorgeous design and something he's always kept apart from his anonymous McLaren year. Vettel's is one that finally people now relate to him, although I feel you can't judge a RB driver's lid till he quits the team. I loathe Ricciardo's design though I love him as a driver.
There's one thing I'd definitely veto on helmets. Rather than ban change in helmet designs mid year, I'd ban the advertising halo that plagues practically all helmet designs of this era. It just sucks! The 'monster' and 'kaspersky' do a solid job of ruining the Merc and Ferrari driver designs.
On the subject of Hamilton's 2014-16 design? Colors are fine, glitters are not and I don't like the 'Still I Rise' and the other crap that Hamilton tries to sell. Pretty rich slogan driving a car that's the class of the field.
Just my opinion.
Maya Angelou. Look her up man! lol That is when you see where Still I Rise comes from.
I just did. Feel embarrassed about my poor general knowledge. Still not embarrassed about my opinion though. Hamilton has worked extremely hard for the fortunes he has and deserves all of it, but he has a pitiful desperation to portray himself as some sort of victim to the world. His humble background, overshadowed by his immense talent and determination to win is a testimony to the champion he is, but he's not had it half as rough as a lot of other champions of our sport have. Just my opinion. And while it's his helmet and totally his choice, and I understand that, I just personally find it very rich. But hey, it's his life. As a fan, I wish Lewis was more a person than a 'brand.'
"Sebastian there's very, you're a member of a very select few.. Stewart, Lauda, Piquet, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Fangio.. VETTEL!"
The "still I rise" is just there to inspire fans who have hard times because he knows what it is like and relate to it. Even today, being successful, even he too has challenges to rise above.
I don't think he needs to be eating off food stamps and living out of a cardboard box to have still i rise on his helmet. I can see your perception of Lewis Hamilton has been borne from the general media.
I am not saying be a Lewis fan or anything but since you seem to be so interested in why... You can check out his instagram pages.. His old website... Charity videos.. Anything NOT released by the usual tabloid media and the f1 bandwagon.... To get a better feel of Hamilton as a person.
It is great when drivers connect to the fans like this. Actually a bit of a surpise that the inspiriational quote "still i rise" is an issue for some people.
