The cars were proposed to be 5-6 seconds faster than the 2015 cars.
Autosport understands following a meeting of the Strategy Group earlier in the day two proposals regarding the '17 rules were put forward for the Commission to deliberate over.
One was Red Bull's stance regarding the pursuit of making the cars five to six seconds per lap quicker, as originally outlined in plans aired last May.
The other was a compromise solution from McLaren whereby the cars are only three seconds per lap faster.
I've a feeling he didn't actually read the link where it says the 5-6 seconds was a red bull proposal that wasn't agreed on...GPR-A wrote: You posted the same link that I did. It says, "3 seconds".
Jesus don't get him/her making more --- up!!!dren wrote:If you flip that three horizontally, erase part of it, add a little bit more, you can get a 6. Or just use your imagination.
Regarding the tyres - Shouldn't this week the presuress been released to lower psi?GPR-A wrote:1 Second degradation ONLY HAPPENS when the driver is driving to a delta time and not pushing hard. I don't think PIRELLI have designed Bridgestone like tyres with endless life. These tyres probably have better life than their predecessors, but I don't think they have endless life. You can either push it hard for a few laps and junk the tires OR nurse them well within what is "ultimate time" possible on those tires and extend the life. For Ex: He could have started a lap in 1m22.xxx and end in 1m25.xxx for the lesser than 20 laps, but by choosing to do a 1m23.xxx, he has managed 20 laps with just one second degradation. A typical race leading scenario.Danlizzyman wrote:That run from Hamilton raises many questions! I've seen so many comments in the past two days that drivers couldn't seem get the US to last an entire lap, for Hamilton to do a 20 lap run with so little deg is quite amazing.AMG.Tzan wrote:20 laps on Ultras for Hamilton in a tire hungry circuit! I really feel those Hards are never going to be used this year...even the mediums! Maybe Pirelli took more in consideration predicted lap times at the end of the year! So by the last quarter of the championship we may see a lot more degradation because of cars getting a lot faster!
F1today.net shows Bottas set the time on ultras.
Just to add to that, PIRELLI started raising the tyre pressures to ensure the tyres have BETTER LIFE. Last year and previous, on a few occasions tyres were blasting and their argument was that, it was happening due to lower pressures. So my conclusion is, teams wanted lower pressure for better performance and PIRELLI's argument was that, it was delivering better performance at lower pressures and resulting in tyres being susceptible for blowouts. So, as for Lewis' run of 20 laps, let's say they are running on lower pressures that PIRELLI is allowing this year, which is allowing better performance, but by their own logic, should be affecting the tire life. In other words, if Mercs were using last year's pressures, most likely, Lewis would have been doing 23-25 laps on those US, with 1 second degradation and importantly, times would have been around 1m24.xxx to 1m25.xxx. That's my guess.Mr.G wrote:Regarding the tyres - Shouldn't this week the presuress been released to lower psi?GPR-A wrote:1 Second degradation ONLY HAPPENS when the driver is driving to a delta time and not pushing hard. F1 teams agree to make cars three seconds faster for 2017
I think you can not apply any of the characteristics from last year tyres as those are completly new, structure, compounds, ...GPR-A wrote:Just to add to that, PIRELLI started raising the tyre pressures to ensure the tyres have BETTER LIFE. Absolutely! That is just a speculation/guess. We will only have know for sure, once we see some races.Mr.G wrote:I think you can not apply any of the characteristics from last year tyres as those are completly new, structure, compounds, ...GPR-A wrote:Just to add to that, PIRELLI started raising the tyre pressures to ensure the tyres have BETTER LIFE. actually its not.Wass85 wrote: I see how you conveniently ignore the Spanish GP pole times. Knock 3 seconds off the pole set by Hamilton last year and we have a 1:19.00. That does make them the FASTEST CARS EVER AROUND CATALUNYA IN A RACE WEEKEND.
2006 was in the old pre-chicane layout, and testing times aren't comparable to times on a race weekend, so Wass85's point stands.dans79 wrote:actually its not.Wass85 wrote: I see how you conveniently ignore the Spanish GP pole times. In it's current configuration Massa holds the fastest time of 1:18.339 in 2008 testing.
I think Alonso has the fastest time ever in 2006 of 1:14.648.

If you read my post I stated in a race weekend.dans79 wrote:actually its not.Wass85 wrote: I see how you conveniently ignore the Spanish GP pole times.
