Just compare the engine tone between 2017 and 2016. It clear that Bottas engine isn't turned up to max. You can easily hear the difference between a Mercedes engine on maximum attack and the 2017. I'm sure that Mercedes can easily find 1-1.3 sec when they drain the fuel and turn up the engine. I think a 1.18 is the target lap time for this test.
I hope you are right, Bottas looks on fire here. It doesn't look like he's giving any time at all away in the corners, like you said though Mercedes could turn up the wick even more.

That car is supposed to be all over the place?

Oh my days. It looks glued down.

Oh and he crossed to start the lap at around 0.08 seconds and crossed again to finish at around 1.28 so that is around an 1.20 lap.
Wrong again, it's from his best time of the day pal.
1m19.3 isn't around 1m20?
Who knew?

test 1 probably fake glue
Second test seems like they bring their regular glue :D
No way Hamilton was 'all over the place' yesterday don't forget.

He's talked himself out of numerous drives and potential titles. He's one of the greatest drivers of modern times but the problems start when he takes his crash helmet off. He should take a leaf out of the Stig's biographies.

I hope Torro Rosso can get themselves sorted, their potential is huge this year.

Bit offtopic but , how much time does he have left do you think? (I would LOVE to see him win a championship again but it seems that time is running out.)

I'm kind of in 2 camps over it.
It was Alonso who walked away. He made that choice.

Yes he was sold a pup but he chose to 'buy' it.

Neither he or McClaren are faultless in this.

Sadly I think 2018 in a Merc would be his only chance and it'd be a Hail Mary at that. If Bottas wins his maiden WDC this year then I don't see why Merc would drop him, and to be honest if Bottas & Hamilton bring home 43 points every weekend then why change the formula anyway? I think most of us would need to change our underwear at the thought of Alonso & Hamilton in the same car but there is nothing in it for Mercedes so why upset the apple cart when there are no more points to win? Alonso has burnt his bridges at Ferrari (though we all thought hell would freeze over before Ron rehired him in 2014) and RBR are happy with Max and Dan.

Mods, i appreciate this is off topic, please move to where ever you see fit :)

Watch the front wing at the end of the straight when he brakes. That's a ridiculous amount of movement!

I suppose that is what happens when you have to try and somehow compensate for a lack of engine power.

I mean what was it Newey said 1% extra on the engine is the same as 1% extra in the aero.
If you then figure that the other teams are good/great on aero then it requires Red Bull to think outside of a lot of boxes.

The thing that excites me most is when a new driver joins a team.

Mercedes will probably know who's the fastest between Hamilton and Bottas already and so will the drivers.

Hamilton would do well to beat that lap by Bottas, it looked very impressive indeed.

It's testing, if he's going to beat Bottas he'll do it where it matters.

I'd add he also has to have the car set-up to do it.

In testing he doesn't get to decide what tires to run, what engine mode to use, or how much fuel is on-board.

Another interesting point that is overlooked in testing is teammate rivalry. I should imagine drivers are trying their best to influence certain upgrades and try out certain set-ups for their best interests. Getting the team behind you on things like this are definitely in a drivers interests.
