This. RedBull haven't shown their hand IMO. focusing on baseline work and suspension development was the impression I got. They certainly seemed quietly confidant.

I think this year we will have a 3 tier or 4 tier championship....we will see for sure after 4 or 5 races.

No clue what it is going to be come Australia a track that you can do good at without having the best engine or downforce balance.

I hope Ferrari are just a flash in the pan again this season. And as much as McLaren are in deep trouble right now, I expect them to come good by half distance and do what they did last year, trouble the front of the midfield, but too many points will be lost at the beginning.

Who cares how bad McLaren does, as long as they get the car in decent shape sometime this season. Sooner is always better than later, and Honda may have a sudden breakthrough with their design. Progress is not linear it comes in like ocean waves, some small some big, some imperceptible.

Here's an interesting article with the author's analysis and his pecking order.

And I must say, it looks pretty accurate.

I think Mercedes & Ferrari are clearly out in front, behind them are Williams & Red Bull. Further down the grid it's harder to tell, but it's clear McLaren is at the back and unlikely to finish the first race, Sauber are probably slowest but will finish ahead of the unreliable detuned McHonda.

Ferrari vs Mercedes and Red Bull vs Williams could be quite interesting, it's all seems very close. I'm excited to see the first race, but I'm worried it could be business as usual.

That's about how the season will start, but it will be long and hopefully a very tight three way fight for wins, not just podiums. I also believe that both Renault and McLaren should move through the midfield by the second half of the season, unless they give up and "plan for 2018".

That is a fantastic link! Thanks!

I'd love to see the midfield analysis too though... But I'm not sure that's been done.

Didn't Mr. Allen use a Mercedes race simulation from week 1 in comparison to a Ferrari week 2 simulation?

Not quite apples to apples, but good reading nonetheless.

With shorter wheelbase and more aggressive aero setup and top chasis and suspension stability on cornering, i hope Ferrari could dive in corner overtake merc with more agility to overcome PU deficit. Bring on Ausie! :D
