Was anyone expecting differently in P1?... You don't think that's jumping the gun... I'm amazed Alonso is 14th.. considering McLaren were running aero testing components for a majority of the test and were the only team smacking into the engine limiter on the straight... so I'm assuming Honda are saving the engine massively

Before saying that was woeful. Let's see what they bring by qualifying, and even then I'm not expecting any mass miracles..
After FPII things don´t look that bad, ok they dont look good either, but I was expecting a complete disaster.

I was also expecting a disaster but I still fear other teams will improve more tomm by turning up the engines while this might be the max from Honda (they have more power but cnt unleash because of reliability)

True, last season it used to happen in every single race. Let´s up Honda can make the same...

1 second behind the mid field train.

bad.
yep, it look very bad atm 9th or 10th team. if the car holds together.
but at least they brought some mileage in.
in Qualy they will be maybe a bit better 14-18th and in the race pretty much test driving.
12th of ALO is not reprensentative at all from Fp2... many problems for faster cars.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Vandoorne will be faster to Sauber only....but Alonso will be around 12-14 place.

Yup, limited laps for sure. And as was said....9th fastest team. Ouch.

Apart from Renault and Massa issues, looks like some of the drivers not adapting as well as others to the new cars and that's what's allowing Alonso up the board

But from the Barcelona test until we put the car on track today the problems have been exaggerated, especially from the outside, because it's very juicy to say that McLaren-Honda would be last, that it would not run, that the odds were high both our cars would retire on the opening lap, and all those silly things that keep coming up every day.
Still we have EB saying that the goal is getting out of Q1 and finish both cars.

Look at these laptimes in second practice:

14 1:39.149
15 1:26.615
16 1:35.607
17 1:26.886

FA:

14 1:39.149

I notice the same fast slow fast slow pattern with other drivers as well but not to this extent. Anyone knows why they do this?

This is hybrid era pattern. in general My thoughts are that they measure battery "ability - charge" to repeat that lap they need to recharge.. It also same pattern for longruns - they do several laps and then one slow - IMHO to recharge battery. In that way they find maximum pace they can run without depleting battery. or at least - they know pace at which battery starts to go minus. (they can still push for a few laps at the pace but would require recharge after number of laps.

He just copy pasted the SAME times for both drivers, jesus. Have a look before posting guys. He just made a mistake. They're 100% same laps.

Do they have to run slower every second lap?
