What will be the purpose of this apart from disturbing the drivers view?
I will habe to buy 2017 GP ticket quick.... 2017 beauty won't Come back soon it seems.

Some extra safety, but I tend to agree, main purpose will be to catch flies and make driving in the rain impossible.

you are aware current helmets also get wet and collect bugs. speed cars go at should push any water off and bugs could be solved by tare off strips at pit stops

I thought there were no bugs anymore?

I don't see how this screen would have saved Justin Wilson or Surtees.

personally i think the main test the fia does is will it stop a wheel getting to the head is flawed and almost pointless.
wheels don't fly off like they did in the past and unless i am mistaken in recent years when cars have mounted each other the driver has been left unscathed.
the biggest improvement from head protection i can see would be stopping small debris like what took out massa

Had forgotten about that
Most of the energy had been taken out of the tryes almost instantly one didn't make it back on track while the other rolled slowly across not the bouncing madness of years gone by

Looks to me like it will have major visibility issues even in the dry with all the heavily curved "glass" creating significant optical distortion.
