If Honda actually fixes their issues by monaco/spain, and it's one hell of a powerplant, then Sauber is in a far better position than judging by today's engine.

Lol, could we see a Sauber next year with the legendary-horrible livery again? :P

I'm betting Matsushita will drive a Sauber next year.

Speedweek is reporting that it is more likely that Wehrlein will stay at Sauber for 2018 and a japanese driver arrives at 2019 onwards.

Honda will sort their PU, but Sauber will still be chugging around at the back. They don't have the resources.

I very much doubt that last assumption. This was certainly the case for many years until Sommer 2016 when the new owners bought the team. Now, if you have a look at the C36 thread, you can see that there are ongoing developments on the car.

Of course, the ressources are not comparable with those of the top-teams. But it should allow Sauber to fight with ToroRosso, Force India, Haas and that alike.

The question is rather if Honda sorts out their PU issues and if Sauber is still possible to built competitive cars with the ressources they have.

There is more to resources than just money. They used to be pretty innovative, but those engineers seem to have moved to other teams. I like Sauber, but they'll still be chugging around at the rear next year.

Honda has got a train painted in Sauber colours before the annoucements

This looks more than a customer deal

a newspaper clip which says "Japan Rail East celebrates the birth of Sauber Honda in 2018 by running special Sauber E7 shinkansen, fans gather to witness the train", it's a big topic being talked about everywhere!

Maybe an injection from Honda?
You won't catch me driving a race car that I have built.

They used to have some pretty innovative engineers. Those get plucked fairly quick. It seems like TR is what Sauber used to be.
