Just noticed they aren't running the new nose with the vents. Signs of updates not working as supposed to?

What new nose? [before]

Ahh, I don't think the vents were for performance. I believe open vents are for driver and some hydraulic cooling, those kind of vents actually reduce performance (downforce).

Do you think this could have contributed to Hamilton's overheating problem?

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sky reporting that part of the reason that Mercedes have been running 6kg overweight is because they had to revert the gearbox pre-season to a heavier version. Anybody heard any more details as to why?
The Mercedes as raced in the first four races is 6kg overweight - partly as a consequence of the original gearbox having to be replaced pre-season by a heavier unit.

A reconfigured version of the original lighter gearbox is set to be part of the Barcelona upgrade, along with suspension changes front and rear and a general weight-saving programme that should allow the team to revert to being able to use ballast to vary the weight distribution from track to track.

This could be a big step for them, as they will be able to run lighter, and use ballast to better balance the car. They will have to hope that practice is clean so they can get enough laps in to get a good baseline setting.

it would be interesting to know how much in terms of tenths u can gain from a noballast situation to say a 5kg ballast situation and also how many more laps they can flatten the tire performance window
then if u can add the effect of 5kg of overwight suppressed u could have a performance gain before the car is on track

would it be too much to think an overall esteem would be around3 tenths max 1 min( and i think in a so close competition the max would be an huge improvement )

any info on this?

According to reports they have no free ballast now. So a 5kg ballast situation means the car will need to be 10kg lighter than it is now if they are 5kg overweight now.

Any reports on the cause lewis' overheating problems in Sochi? Even in free air the temps were critical and it was not said which components were overheating.

thanks
so they reduced the weight of 5/6kg, that surely is a pure performance gain

i dont believe they can cut 10 kilos.... maybe the 5... and its a big cut already for an F1 car. unless they are using less batteries... and thats not going to happen...

You need to remember that they had a lighter transmission during pre-season testing but had to revert to an older heavier design (what they are using now), so I would say 10 is in the realm of possibility. However it will all come down to how radical the changes they are making are.
