New tyres weren't quicker it seems, scrubbed were better. Pirelli have been very conservative with the compounds this year, they are simply too hard and it's very difficult to keep the temps up.
But still with 18 laps to go he would have made huge gains and could have had tyre differential to Vettel and could have overtaken him easily
I don't think so, the tyres weren't wearing out, it was very possibly to do a 1 stop from very early on. I don't think the differential would have given Hamilton enough of an advantage, and probably would have given him a disadvantage for the first few laps.

Is it just me, or did Bottas brake unusually early in the first corner again, just like he did in Canada?
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Hamilton again being lucky af. Irratic driving has been penalised before... Just hamilton gets the waiver. Totally wrong decision to punish only one driver.

Also pretty funny how He demanded Bottas to slow down Vettel.

Hahah that was an interesting race, but yes the Williams to me is the third best car to have on this track.
Very slippery. So i somewhat predicted that if Stroll kept his nose clean he would more or less have a shot at the podium. he wasn't particularly fast in reality though.

By the way, i think ferrari is a very strong race car. it had some serious pace when hamilton was chasing. Also able to overtake mercedes powered engines when needed. Vettel had some serious pace after the penalty.
The race was great. Thoroughly disappointed with Ocon though.

Unfortunate for Hamilton, perfect weekend and to be let down by a loose headrest. But i guess the team will only be stronger.

Vettel showing his weakness which i have highlighted before and been called a troll. The man has anger management problems.

Putting all the drama aside, merc's straight line speed advantage over ferrari is ridiculous.
Which is why Lewis couldn't get past on Baku straight of all places and Seb was closing in on Bottas right. Do you randomly just make all this stuff up?

Must be

Lewis was gaining several tenths (like 6 or 7) on the strait, but then loosing it at the end of sector 1 and the beginning of sector 2.

I think Mercedes expected to change the headrest much faster than the 9 seconds it took. Maybe they were going to click the current one in place and changed their minds last minute. I was all a bit of a mess and strange situation.

Actually, he's right. Mercedes was faster, even before DRS and straight.

Anyone thinks Bottas deserved penalty for crash with Kimi?

Still good for Stroll on a race most were betting which lap he would crash, but yes in this crazy race a Massa victory was a possibility.

Vettel had the pace over Bottas despite his very old engine and enough to protect himself from Hamilton.

Nobody would argue with that this weekend.

Seeing how Alonso cleanly avoided contact with a Sauber (I think) in just the same position (car on the right is in front and carries more speed entering and exiting the corner), have to say I'm on the penalty-for-Bottas train...

Very composed interview by Hamilton post race. I'd be livid.

What a pitty about the headrest. Couldnt think of a win besides monaco 15 that was more deserved.

Happy for Dan and Stroll. Very gutted also for Max.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Guys, I know the Hamilton/Vettel incident is highly controversial, and both are bound to throw comments back and forth in public the coming days. You are certainly allowed to discussed it, but please please do so respectful towards eachother. I know this will bring up emotions, but I need all of you to stay constructive and rational. If not, I will be forced to hand out warnings. That goes for comments made after this post, but also ones made before.

The Hamilton vs Vettel incident must be discussed in its dedicated thread:

What kind of ridiculous luck is Ric carrying? His team mate is doing all the right work to then face bad luck in race. Whereas Ric is poor throughout the weekend except for those lucky moments. I can't recall another driver who was that lucky in one season.

He did pull off some decent overtakes during the race to put himself in a position to ultimately inherit the victory, which admittedly was purely by chance. Max has been very unlucky this season with reliability.

The whole race was a bit of a farce, a win is a win, but I don't really feel like Riciardo or Stroll achieved anything other than being behind cars that had to pit for safety or penalties.
