kimi should retire from the sport. I think we have seen enough from him based on his performance so far in ferrari. He is no longer a strong race driver. He can do respectable in qualifying, but lacks the consistency to reproduce fast laps over a race distance.
I would take Perez out of the equation from Renault, as i think he has a good chance of the ferrari drive.
I am more inclined to think that Sainz, or Kyvat or Nasr would be knocking on Renault's front door.
Buemi or Vergne may also try to put a foot in.

Mclaren and Renault have similar potential for 2018 in terms of PU prospect,budget prospect but Mclaren has a lot better aero and chassis potential(human resources)....Alonso better off staying in Mclaren, during Lotus days soooo many good aero people have left Enstone.

I agree with the fact that McLaren should be stronger, their aero package is more developed though in 2019-2020 Renault should be fighting for big things again.

While on the topic of driver change, I do remember a particular quote from Abiteboul. Found it at Autosport:

Hulkenberg has been fast and consistent through the season, bringing many points. This was his first mistake and he was doing a fine job(again) before it.
