It came about from them trying to exploit an area of the front suspension regulations that improved the characteristics of it from a mechanical perspective. Because of that, and the way that they regulations are worded, they couldn't merge it into the nose as they typically would like; there is an exclusion box that they had to respect. So they ended up with that little bit of a "forehead" on the nose.
