At a team event at the Museo Storico Alfa Romeo, where the Italian car manufacturer celebrated their return to Formula One, the Sauber F1 team have announced their driver line-up for 2018. From behind a repainted Sauber in Alfa Romeo colours, Marcus Ericsson and Charles Leclerc were present to confirm their racing seats in 2018.

The Alonso whoring is beyond belief. He's had a higher share of teams either fully backing him (Renault, Ferrari) or was paired with subpar team-mates (Massa, Kimi). This has created some fairytale that Alonso is some kind of God, which he clearly isnt.
He is undoubtedly one of the best drivers on the grid, sure, but that's all he is. The only somewhat indication we could have is Button being paired with both Hamilton and Alonso, though Button is rather sensitive. If he is in a car he doesnt like, he is subpar at best too.
I wouldnt bet any money on Alonso being quicker than Hamilton. He wasnt in 2007, even if the Alonso fans cant put up with that. And just as Alonso has matured into a very consistent driver, so has Hamilton. The only difference is that Hamilton is fighting for championships while Alonso is driving a slow car and beating his team mate(s) giving the illusion of a much better performance.
Stick him into a front running team with a half decent team mate and his performances could be much better gauged accurately than simply building myths and legends.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II #Team44 supporter
I just wonder if people think about 2007 Alonso (arguably his peak being a double world champion?)
Lewis in 2007 a rookie in F1 racing with nt maych experience, certainly not on the non european circuits.
Fast forward 10 years and EVERYONE surely must agree that Lewis has improved more than what Alonso has.
So id have to say if they were in identical cars next year, Lewis would be favourite. Only just, but woukd be favourite.

Not just that, what would be the ambition from Mercedes? Fireworks? They have one of the fastest and most reliable drivers already, who can still be on top of his game for at least 4 or 5 years and get an older former WC in there who displayed disloyalty towards his former teams?
Nah.
Bottas will be replaced the coming years with Hamilton’s successor. Someone like Ocon, Verstappen or Ricciardo. That, in 2019 or something, will give 1988/89 like fireworks.
So i see posts critizising nonsensical replies like that of Phil (which is nothing but fanboy provocative garbage) above get removed and disappear without any regard but the nonsensical, hating posts are allowed to stay. funny.
a little consistancy goes a long way i guess.
attacks like 'stfu' are ignored and done nothing with, asking 3 times for a clarification on that specific matter and literally not a single effort to reply, pm, or anything at all, but adressing hating anti fanboy posts that consist of literally nothing disappear.
is there a game of 'friend politics' going on here?

1. McLaren and ALO is waiting to Honda Spec 4 (September-October)
a) If it works, McLaren will stay with Honda in 2018 and ALO out of F1 (WEC, Indy, Museum, etc).
b) If it not works, McLaren will brake contract with Honda (financially very bad for team, critical situation) and begins with Renault, ALO stays.
c) ALO waiting for a miracle with Bottas's contract.
2. Toro Rosso and RedBull waiting for option 1.b).
a) If it happens, Toro Rosso will have Honda engines and Sainz goes to Renault F1 Team.
b) RedBull will begin talks with Honda for 2019.
I cant see Merc dumping Bottas now, the team are a good margin in front in the WCC so he is doing his part. If they were in ferraris position where they lead the WDC but are well behind in the WCC then they would look else where.
Merc have team harmony at the moment and are nearly 50pts clear in the Constructors title so Bottas is good for the team.

I wrote a considered, non-hating, reply to your post but because your post disappeared while I was writing, when I posted my post disappeared too. It said that the post I quoted didn't exist so mine disappeared too. Most annoying.
I would politely suggest that some of your posts against Hamilton are as anti/hater as you said Phil's are about Alonso.
We should all aim for less fanboy/hater arguments and more evidence-based discussion.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
Where on earth have you concluded i am anti Hamilton? I am a friggin Hamilton fan for crying out loud.

Bottas can come back to Williams as initially were mention when he signed the contract. The one out could be Massa.
I think they'll put Bottas on a 1 year-extension. 2019 is far too attractive to not have a seat available when either Ricciardo or Verstappen could be on the market. I also think they will try to retain Hamilton for another multi year agreement.
Bottas probably wants more, but I think it will either be what Mercedes gives him or the door.

Looking a bit further ahead to RedBull, I think it's pretty safe to say that Verstappen and Ricciardo are leaving them when their contract is over. Since Webber and Coultard they haven't gotten any drivers from outside their own pool and for that relative short term that looks pretty dry.
Will Carlos wait until 2020 to fill one of the seats? And then still, he's a good driver, but no team leader like the ones he needs to succeed.
Combined with the Renault issue the future for RedBull might need a change in way how they approach the whole F1 project.
Past 'history' will block Mercedes move for Alonso - Wolff
"He’s certainly a very skilled driver but he’s not a consideration for us."
This guy again
This "past history" didn't stop Wolff's yapping about Alonso as Rosberg's replacement when he was on one year contract in '16. Unless he's talking about something that happened afterwards it's all the same media BS.
