Lewis Hamilton has taken another decisive win at the Japanese Grand Prix, fending off Max Verstappen in the final few laps. Daniel Ricciardo completed the podium for Red Bull Racing. The win is a major one for Hamilton, as his championship lead is now further extended after Vettel retired early on with power issues.
I remember that famous shot of Nicos tyre compressing last year in T1. With more downforce on the cars now, would be interesting to see a shot like that again.
Was that T1? Always thought it was Degner 1. But I agree, I hope to see more like it this year, and I expect we will since everyone saw how popular that photo got last year, every photographer and their mother will be trying to replicate it this year.
Indeed. The most interesting shot this year was the repeated tyre twerking caugh on video at Spa.
The reason why Merc is underperforming on some tracks is a complex answer that is not known even by Merc team, as Rosberg said on Sky.
But there are some significant factors worth to be taken into account and the biggest one is tyre temp - hence track temp - and then the tyre compound ....
So in order to see the big picture we should have a graph with tyre compound and in addition a track temps in the qualy sessions ...
There's a movement building on the various F1 sites to gift Palmer with his very own Driver of the Day award for Japan as his going away present. I ask, how can you not do your part?

Does anyone knows, what's the extra boost that Spec 4 PU gave for Ferrari? The rumored 10 hp is heard of, but does anyone know how much of the reduced oil burning has an impact on the performance?
Just out of curiosity and because he simply could not keep out of the matter, I have noticed I have not heard a thing from 'giantfan10' or something like that. What has happened to him?
Does it every year - all "Ferrari are doing well this year" in the pre-season and early in the season then goes quiet as the year goes on. He'll be back during testing, no doubt.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.
Don't think this has been posted so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUoEB5r1QgM
The comparison between the smoothness of the current cars whilst carrying big speed through the Ss etc. to the 2006 cars is quite amazing. Hamilton looks like he's out for a Sunday drive where Massa looks to be having to work the steering a lot to get the time from the car.
Interesting to see that his 2006 time is only 1/10 faster than his Q2 time this year and a 1/10 slower than his Q3 time. He'd have still only got 9th on the grid for this race with his previous record time. Who says the current cars aren't fast?

Yeah, nowadays, cameras have much better image stabilization

Got a feeling Vettel/Ferrari might win this by being super aggressive and risky on strategy (or simply lead into the first corner)... we shall see.

Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II #Team44 supporter
Thing is Hamilton is amongst the best here, he may have been beaten to the previous three poles, but his race pace was phenomenal in those three races. First year in the rain, Ham got Rosberg on track then pulled away from Rosberg at 2 seconds a lap for multiple laps, it wasn't even a contest and he wasn't behind Rosberg for long except for safety car laps which obviously don't count. In 2015 he got him off the start then Rosberg struggled to pass two cars while in 2016 Ham dropped way more places and just carved up the field and ended up far closer to Rosberg in second from 8th after the start than Rosberg managed in 2015 from 4th after the start.
If Vettel gets ahead, Ham is just supreme around here, race pace I don't think anyone can touch him here and for Rosberg to beat him to pole, he had a car setup that was drastically slower in the race.
