Any ideas on 2009 cars?

Post

Anyone got any rough ideas they think the 09 cars will look like?
I had hoped someone would have photoshoped a car minus its bargeboards and winglets etc.

They may look like the Ferarri F2003-GA, Arrows A18 and Williams FW26B im thinking.

Although if you take the 2006 cars and take all the dropladangers and appendages off them and make the sidepods less waisted you may be on the right lines as well.

Thats my hunch.

i don't they won't look like those cars.

It is not only the ban of appendices, but the cars will be wider, lower, have bigger tyre (with the front ones being really smaller than the rear), they will have a really long front wing span (180cm)closer to the ground than in 2003 while the rear wing will be 15 higher and very narrow (80cm).

So while the will look indeed sleeker like the ones you show they'll be very different.

Smaller in width or diameter? Or both? I don't like that idea personally, just never have been a fan of huge rears and [really] small fronts.

Ogami, do you know if the wheel diameter will continue to be 13 inches as it is now?

The only guess I have is we will see a return to boxy side pods... because of no bargeboards.

But leaves me wondering how the radiators will be mounted, will the teams try do something special instead of mounting them how they were previous to the undercut sidepods?

The aero may looks somewhat like this, with the exception of sidepod intakes and the 2009 dimensions. What do you think?

I have a F2007 diecast, that i took apart to repaint (just for fun, and a better red than mattel cam eup with). Anyways, it kind of gives a very sleek and beautiful shape to the car seeing it without any appendages. So i'm very excited for next seasons debut!

If anyone were interested in creating a CAD model of a potential 2009 car (mainly the suspension/body) I'd be happy to throw some wings on and do the CFD ^_^

Both, but both tyres will be bigger than the actual ones, that's just there'll be a bigger difference between rear and front than now.

That would be cool if anyone was willing to do that.

Another thing, with the mid section of the front wing being standardized I cant help but feel the whole front will look pretty similar on all the cars.

But for the first time in ages a season is coming up where I have NO idea whatsoever about how the cars will look! The last time I ooo'd and aaaa'd was at the FW26 launch!

Wait, the teams all have to run the same front wing center section? Wow, that's stupid. Is there anywhere I can find the specs/cross section of that center section?

The middle section is 40cm wide. It is not stupid it is a part where the effects of turbulences are the most important so the OWG have designed a center part that is less sensitive to turbulences.

Teams will have 140cm left (which is equivalent to the actual width of front wings) to make what they want since appendices ban is only between front wing and rear wheels.

What's stupid is that that should be left to the teams to do!

Anyone have pictures of the mercedes that tested recently? Allegedly it ran 2009 spec wings?

For the 2009 spec cars, I suspect the cars main body will look similar to that of an A1GP car. It's a really clean set-up they run. They've got a few flip-ups but that's about it.
