Lewis Hamilton has won the United States Grand Prix, despite losing first position at the start. The Mercedes driver quickly rectified that situation and went on to dominate the race ahead of the battling that went on behind him. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen both joined him on the podium for Ferrari.
I most certainly don't think this picture is conclusive. The car is rotating whilst it's going thru the corner. The outside rear could still be in contact with the white line, and that's all that is needed. I'd like to see a video on slow mo to judge whether the outside rear was touching the white line or if there was a clear visible gap between the tire and the line.

He did. Sainz, same corner, same situation. Shame on you FIA. Penalty, allright, track limits. But why only one driver, and than on this moment when you do not penalize others, like sainz ??
I think there a better things to dicuss about this race. It was pretty good. Not great.
Hartley... hmm i guess his race was very quiet. Kvyat did well, but it looks like he only drives good when he has to prove a point.
Haas was pretty poor today. A shadow of what they were at the start of the season.
Sainz to me was driver of the day. Very good pace and wheel to wheel combat. He challenged for best of the rest and only had ocon to pass.
Perez seems faster than Ocon, but just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I would have let him past when he request to. He was clearly faster and had a good front grip with the car, but he messed up himself by following Ocon too closely.
Ocon did a stellar job getting a good start. Ok drive today i guess, good pace.
Kimi was better than Vettel today. He started off slowly but really had the measure of his teammate. It's just his secondary role that holds him back.
Bottas wasnt all that bad, just didn't do a good job managing the tyres. I think was strong in the first stint fighting of danny. Bottas actually is a good racer, he just needs to work on long run pace or understanding the tyres. His defense was uncharacteristically weak today as well.
As for Hamilton. I guess i got nothing to say apart from his driving was very precise. Didn't crash with vettel during the start, the overtaker, and showed very intelligent pass on max, very incisive. Pretty much the most masterful pass the whole race when you look on efficiency and risk management.

F1 is getting more of joke by the year.
If thats the case then yes its wrong. I thought Sainz passed into t19

The picture i posted shows all 4 well off the track.
Sainz was much different if i remember correctly.
And we must also remember, if a team doesn't call it in then we can't blame the FIA for that.
They may well have penalized Sainz if the offense was called in.
What i remember of the sainz overtake though.. both cars were in the middle of the track side by side.Didn't remember seeing him cut the corner to pass.

Yes that's better. No need for a video, then. I guess the stewards were right. Max fans all over are just being emotional.

Exactly. Punish everyone who cuts a corner to overtake.
Running wide on exits has been happening forever in F1, especially since tarmac run offs were introduced.
Cutting on the inside of a corner to overtake must be punished every time.
Horner and Jos just need to accept the facts.
So we should only punish track limits when it suits?
You have to understand that he made illegal overtake.
So, why not punish all other drivers that were involved in similar situations in the race? Why not punish others who went off track to gain speed advantage too? Bottas, Ricciardo, Sainz, Vettel etc?

Vettel will be ok as it was T1 lap 1, always is and everyone knows this.
Bottas and Ricciardo didnt overtake anyone off track ?? I cant remember it if they did.
Sainz i think may be the only 1 that may be questionable, not sure on his exit on T19 when he passed Perez. But it certainly wasnt on the inside of T17 like Max

Frankly I don’t care about the penalty. I saw some great racing today and that is what counts.
In the end it is about a driver gaining a place nursing a 900hp beast off-track with two wheels on the grass and a team of Ferrari lawyers gaining a place in a secluded room on a paddock.
The first is what makes racing great the rest is just bookkeeping.
Blatant.. at least a foot and a half. Clearly got a speed advantage and an uncompromised approach into the next corner from this.
No one is disputing (i am not) that Max wasnt momentarily off the track. My issue lies in that he was practically forced off by Kimi while alongside just before he goes there. If you watch the onboard, you can see Kimi jinx to the right which causes Max to change his trajectory too. He did so, to avoid a potential collision but at that point was committed to the move. Once you go off, braking or sudden change of direction could lead to loss of control. He stayed there, not unlike Bottas who when pushed wide by Ricciardo at T1 left the track completely and rejoined parallel to Ricciardo.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II #Team44 supporter

Max was almost right in keeping his foot in and taking the position, he should just fully accept the penalty, the reasoning and understand. Instead of mouthing off and saying he has been hard done by.
It looked like Kimi was going to run him off, but it turns out he didnt.
