I most certainly don't think this picture is conclusive. The car is rotating whilst it's going thru the corner. The outside rear could still be in contact with the white line, and that's all that is needed. I'd like to see a video on slow mo to judge whether the outside rear was touching the white line or if there was a clear visible gap between the tire and the line.
The picture i posted shows all 4 well off the track.

Yes that's better. No need for a video, then. I guess the stewards were right. Max fans all over are just being emotional.
his fans have all the right to be emotional, and if only there was a way to avoid this and not make drivers think that going outside track limits is ok, mostly...

That RB13 was a real beast throughout the medium to high downforce and traction limited stuff. If that car had a Mercedes or Ferrari power unit in the back it would be a truly dominant car.

So much ridiculous stuff being written. Max wasnt forced anywhere by Kimi. He was behind until he completely cut the corner to overtake. The rules are enforced in a very clear way. The odd track limits transgression is forgiven so long as you don't gain a meaningful advantage. Overtaking someone with all four wheels of the race track is a very meaningful advantage. It's such an obvious, slam dunk of a penalty. I thought hamiltons post race interview was very interesting. Critical of Sebastian taking too much out of his tyres and making it an easy pass for him. Hamilton seems on a different level at the moment and like when he had heiki alongside him, I think he really benefits from having a less competitive team mate. Once he knows he's the top dog in the team it seems to bring more out of him.

Is this the suggestion box? Here is an idea to make F1 more interesting. Require all tracks be as wide as COTA, and require Verstappen start at the back with a new engine each race. (Or, really, any of the top six drivers.) :)

And put gravel immediately outside the track. Let's see how many try to overtake with all four wheels off the track then.

Dazed, bonjon,

Agreed on both points :)

I thought Max was only level with him whilst off track, and then completed the pass at the next corner

Max was one third beside Kimi before they took the corner Max saw Kimi's front right turn in more and at the speed they were travelling Max decided to give more room and went briefly off track. This steward has been known to make controversial decisions in the past.

Did anyone see Webber say on ch4 live its a sh*t decision. Lol

Wow Vettel ran off really wide at the first turn after the start. Could have even caused an incident. Went off track to protect his overtake.
Glad Hamilton is above taking that bait.
Ferrari lost this championship and soon Vettel will be a loser too.
Karma.

third or fourth, don't think that Verstappen really cares. He likes to win :D

but a very very strong race from him! damn... almost second... and for the 5 sec penalty, well.... I do like my fellow dutch race kid, but he did cut the track (and yes, lots of others did to but that still isn't a real excuse)

The stewards with a bit of feel of the race would left it, but they didn't. shame but not the end of the world and in their right.

Verstappen is still developing fast. he well could be a title contender next year (if Renault sort that Q-pace out)

fun race!!

Don't say that, --- race by Max, no pace, no skill, a vile cheat and his fans are all senseless idiots. Dud of the day.

Hamilton and Ferrari are great though.

It looks to me like Max had overlap well before he left the track and Kimi came over and squeezed him. Thus only leaving Max with three options, back off and settle for 4th, collide with kimi , or go off the track.

Dude, your bias is showing. I'm no Max fan, but any drive from 16th to 4th with the kinds of passes Max pulled off is an excellent drive.

I agree, if there were grass or gravel no one can cut a curve.
