2018 Regulatory Aerodynamic changes

This topic is to discuss the changes in F1 aerodynamics either brought by direct technical regulation changes, or caused indirectly by changes in the technical or sportive regulation book (for example, the knock on effects by the Halo).

This topic is NOT to discuss specific aerodynamic solution used by teams which aren't related to the above criteria. Please refer to the 2018 car speculation threads, or the official car topics when launched.

Gary Anderson postulated if some kind of golf-ball-like dimpling could be used on the halo.



Wonder how much value that would have on an F1 car and, if any, why the halo would be the only part of the car to receive this treatment?

I'm thinking of taking a break from F1 in 2018. I am literally burned out on the hype that is forever tainted by the back room deals that go on, and that the competition is grossly unfair and unbalanced.

I don't know that I'm going to watch something different, but Burningwhee1s always seems to have something NON-F1 to watch available.

I'm sick of feeling let down, constantly, by the sport that has the most wasted potential of all.

From what I'm hearing it sounds like at least one team is using the sides flattened out with slits in it to form turning down the sidepods - not entirely sure why, all I can think of is that they're using it to help flow turning away from under the airbox?

My understanding is that the halo itself is a spec-part, and will be supplied to all the teams by their choice of the three suppliers the FIA has allowed to make them. The teams can then shroud/add fins/whatever however they want within the rules.

The real halos haven't been on track yet, all that have been tested to date are mockups.
