This is not related to cars in any way: I just read an article yesterday, in Nature, and I thought that the more "computerized" members would like to take a look:

Memristors, substitute for transistors

these guys may have saved Microsoft somehow. Imagine a windows that is ready to operate at a push of a button instantly despite all the effort of millions of MS programmers to screw it up?

Just got the paper, I'll read it when I'm on the mood of reviewing my electronics (transistors booooooore me to death). Anyway, the idea does sound weird. Do you know if there is some kind of phase transition on the TiO2 crystal? This may depend on the fine details of the devices, but I recall that electrodynamics had time reversal symmetry.

Don't worry. You still have to launch applications... and boot time is still way less important than uptime (unless you're on a laptop). The most interesting point was made by Chua, when stating the power savings possibly achievable.
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

I read an article about quantum in a magazine a few months ago. Maybe Scientific America? The article had to do with the ability to change the "spin" of the electron that passes through the system. They called it Spintronics, and it was fascinating.

Now, instead of a yes or no answer, there is a yes, no and 8 degrees of maybe.

They gave a 2011 date for mainstream availability I believe. I'm gonna see if I can find that mag. Unfortunately, my little girls just LOVE tearing up dad's stuff!
