Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 C37

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

ALSO; another 'intake' / duct on the rear 'fin/back' of the engine cover!
Mentioned that on page one 😝
sorry, i must have missed that one after my eyes popping out after seeing this amazing alfa!

also very interesting rear shock beam with the rear light fairings around it.
i can't remember ever having seen anything like that?! :wtf: [in green]

+ some interesting shapes at the diffuser [in bright blue]

+ what's going on with that rear rim? some interesting 'patterns' on the wheel itself?

The rear wheel rim has a similar pattern to that on the RB14. Probably a standard OZ rim for 2018.

I admit that I am impressed with the design detailing on this years car. Kudos to Sauber for retaining & refining the "blade" intake solution. That's obviously something that works within their design principles. I'm really keen to see how the Alfa compares to the Haas on the track (& I hope that this car gives Haas a bloody nose!!).

On a personal note (& as an Alfa driver of almost 20 years now) it would be great to see this car give the old lady an F1 win.

The engine cover is actually significantly higher than last year:

Results in a fairly small shark fin as they don’t have nearly as much to play with as other teams.

That's an ENORMOUS change... Must be internal ducting... what else could be up that high in the back? an oil cooler?

PS: The Renault is much higher here as well!

First: This car is sexxy AF.

Second: If these cars all race as good as they look (even the halo isn't that awful now, and actually adds a bit to the aggressive look from the side due to its profile angle of attack), we are going to have the tightest midfield of all-time. We may have 2-3 breakaway cars, but after that, its may be thousanths between them.

I said the Williams is the Dark Horse bet for me this year, but this car looks very good. I'll stick with Williams due to a bit more convergence, but I cant wait to see these cars on track!

PS: This may be the cleanest rear suspension integration that I have ever seen!
PSS: Is the wing under the mirror actually re-laminating the air to the side-pod top?
The same suspension as Ferrari will use. So expect it on Ferrari an the Haas too.

Aero appendages on the upper front suspension arms:

Notice the brake duct and associated fairings were not installed for the photo shoot, so the structures of the metallic components are visible. By the regs, I believe the suspension pick ups (attached to the aluminum uprights) must be made from a steel alloy.

The innermost fin is quite far inboard, must be right at the edge of the allowance box.

Rear end details (high res):

Again no brake ducts/fairings present for the shoot.

There seem to be two small bulges, on opposite sides of the wheel, in the ribbed area of the wheel, which are not apparent on the RB14 wheels.

These cars would look really good without those stupid halo's. Such an eyesore

Agreed but this car looks so much better than their previous attempt and I really dig the color scheme. Looks like quite the step up this car will be compared to last year's machine. Sauber getting the same engines as the 18 Ferraris? Or is it last year's engine?
Same engines as Ferrari I believe. Due to Leclerc deal
Not really. They where supposed to have the recent engine last year too, beore monisha decided, now that they have money for aero updates, they could have the last years engine, so the car gets as bad as possible.

Do you have a source for that or are you just guessing?

Thank you, I had completely missed that video. But going back to look at the renders that HAAS released I can't help to feel that the suspension is different.
