New nose at Williams

Post

Like most of you probably heard Williams will be using a convensional nose at Hungary...and the "tusk" nose was scraped.....has anyone heard of this new nose in terms of shape? or will they be using last years nose as a imidiate thing and develop a new nose for the following races?

sorry ,what did they do in the meantime,as they run this shape without success for quite a while now....
seems they waited for the new tunnel to go on stream before scrapping their whole aero concept.
they must have wading in very deep mud for some time..

Well could Patrick Head's decision to give Sam Michael the Tech Director placing be a more or less way to escape from the public humiliation of a revolucionary design not working well? Could Patrick have found that he's getting old? Could there be a slight prob with the old wind tunnel (last year Sauber admited that they ran in a wind tunnel which wasn't calibrated properly)?

monstro, those are some interesting thoughts. about the windtunnel, perhaps that is the case. but about patrick head stepping down to avoid public humiliation, i don't really think thats behind his move. he hasn't shown himself in the past to really give a damn about what the public thinks about him, he just wants his car to win - as any great engineer should. if anything, i could see him in this type of a situation staying on longer to try and help williams get through this. so for him not to do this, says to me that this move has been in the works for a while, before they knew the problems they would have this season.

The tusk nose was a good idea, but it's not worked well. I salute Williams for trying to innovate.

interestingly enough extreme solutions don´t work in F1 right out of the box.
This is not new and there´s no wonder why this is so.
These days ,this holds truth more than ever with the restricted running during practise.
Fact is ,the teams have not much time to evaluate a setup,so they have to simulate in advance. So if you deviate very much in the basic layout of your car from what you had all your assumtions maybe wrong and so you start the weekend in a backposition ,even though your car´s potential might be quite good.
If you evolve your design you may well be in a position to start your weekend with a car setup very close to optimum, giving more scope for tyre evaluation and efficiency.
With the tusks Williams had one thing to worry too much in their armoury ,that´s all.

Ain't she a beauty?

It seems to me to have a slight resemblance with last years nose in terms of pointyness but looks a little bit higher....this impression may be caused because last years front wind central section wasn't so low....so could it be last year nose with slight touchs?...your impressions?

i like the new "ferrari" nose! (sorry Bernard, you know i couldnt stay away from ribbing you!)

seriously, i like the new nose, it makes the car look way more aggresive.

Now, let see what it can do on the track.

They probably did raise the nose a little bit because the plates connecting the wing seem to be a bit longer.

But if you look at the connecting plates of the FW25 and at the front wing you'll see that the middle section of the FW25's wing was raised (W shaped) and the middle section on the FW26 is lower (U shaped)

Anyone else think the old nose was much more beautiful? I know many people hated it but I had a kind of soft spot for it.
But yes, their new ferrari nose. Man those guys at ferrari make lots of different noses during the season, as I haven't seen this one either on their car. (just kidding sharkie)

Looking at the 2 pictures and noticing where the "white" area from the connecting plates ends and that they seem to be continued by a sort of "extensions", it really looks like the same nose. When the reports say that only Pizzonia will test this nose in the morning, it can tell that Williams is just exploring the concept, what do you think?

I was wrong: both drivers used it and seemingly will keep it for the rest of the weekend.

Still looks me like last year's nose in this year's chassis and front wing though... :|
