Vettel 1:27.9 in the 13. lap on Softs now.
Wow if that’s true, is sky just straight up lying? I’m here chewing my nails off in anxiety at the thought of a Mercedes walkover and that’s happening without a mention on commentary? Suuuuper annoying
You need to consider fuel load!
They’re on race sims. One hopes that they’re running with fuel equivalent to a race start - while running the ultras as they will post qualifying. If one is heavier or lighter than the other, you’re right that it skews the results - but to what end?

Considering the tyre allocation are Ferrari going to attempt a Supersoft -> Soft race, vs. Mercedes going Ultra -> Ultra -> Super or similar?

Cars seem to be affected a lot by Halo (both weight and aero), everyone bar McLaren is slower than last year. Or is it too soon to say?
I don't think so. Conditions tommorow don't look to be the best, but even then, cars are slower already. There's no reason to expect a higher jump in pace from FP2 -> Q3 this year comapred to 2017. I say in best case scenario they're a maximum of 0.5s faster than last year come qualifying.

New tarmac really did wonders in barcelona it seems.

RBR and Merc did their times on ultras earlier in their simulation runs, Vettel did his later on supers. In other words Vettels time should be faster as his car was lighter, if he wasn't Ferrari would be hosed.

Sky says Mercedes and redbull in the high 28’s, Ferrari in the low 29’s. Little between merc and redbull, Ferrari a little further back.

Well, I also find it interesting that Sky seems to make Mercedes look like a kind of an extraterrestrial car which is miles away of others.
Austrian TV told that it generally were tight long-runs among the top 3 teams, Mercedes being the fastest however.
My information of the time of 13. lap of Vettel is out of a liveticker, btw.

Who the f... though it was a good idea to still use shoulder cam  I'd honestly like to meet that person.
Well, the 2nd one is the best option right now. T-cam is absolutely horrible
At least you can see the road from the T-cam. You can't see anything from this angle.
Onboard cameras look terrible now... #-o

No they didn't.
They just said that Mercedes was ahead (which they seem to be). They also said it was close between them and RedBull. Hell they even hinted at Ferrari sandbagging and that Mercedes may need to keep an eye on that when Vettel randomly popped in a fastest speed trap time.

Yeah, I'm really amazed by this. Cars shouldn't be more than 6kg heavier and (should) have a lot more downforce compared to a year ago. On top of that, tyres are a step softer. Something is missing. Maybe the Halo affected car's CoG the most.
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I would assume so, it's fairly high and its not exactly light. I also think teams are saving the engines.

Do take into account the temperature differences. I think Di Resta mentioned that last year's Friday was much cooler.

Oh, my apologies then. I actually didn't watch Sky. Just reacted to what was being written here.

Ferrari faster in the middle sector, slower in the 1st and 3rd. Any opinions? Good through 90 degree stuff in the middle sector, good acceleration, poor in the higher speed corners?

Anyone who actually knows what they’re talking about have any insights?

Ferrari´s behaviour is strange, I dont want to mix my feelings with reality, but they seem to hide something, but who knows...

Honestly I’ve had that feeling all through testing but now it’s fading... I’m staaaaarting to think they’re just third.
