2021 Engine thread

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

the MGU-K torque map or equivalent will be similar (for motoring) to the ICE torque map
the actual map required is a PU map

but these maps define steady state behaviour not the various dynamic MG behaviours under varying load

the Porsche has an induction MG - and a synchronous MG can be designed around asynchronous behaviour
both these and other approaches will passively produce a convenient torque collapse under rapidly varying load
whilst having a steady state map showing no torque collapse
Can't these behaviours be monitored?
Sure, but isn't that limiting operating modes of hardware that passes legal inspection? Are you specifically suggesting that you don't allow the engineers to optimize the machines that they spend hundreds of millions to build?
That depends on the benefits. If it's simply to aid drivability then yes, it should be limited in my opinion.

That's a slippery slope that Formula racing, by design, is supposed to avoid.

Can we get this old tech added to the 2021rule set?

Driverless cars are being tested for the road. Should Formula racing follow this path..........?

Lets start with lane departure warnings.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Lets start with lane departure warnings.
Or traffic assist for RB. Pedestrian avoidance for Ferrari.

Lets start with lane departure warnings.
Or traffic assist for RB. Pedestrian avoidance for Ferrari.
And low speed wall avoidance systems for Grosjean

I'm fine with the RoboRace series, but wouldn't want F1 to pursue that path.

Keeping the current PU for 2021 is looking like a distinct possibility!

Every manufacturer wants to keep the MGU-H and are prepared to share tech to entice new manufacturers...

The new manufacturer is porsche, who are quite keen to see the MGUH out as they have already developed a fancy ALS.
Or so the rumours say.

With the MGU-H out, will they keep running these insane high boost levels and lean mixtures? Lowering boost would lower lag.

They talk about an anti-lag development race that they don't particularly want, in the press conference, which is another reason they want to keep the H

IndyCar's Next Engine Will Have 900 Horsepower With No Hybrid In Sight
The 2.4 liter V6 arriving in 2021 will have 900 hp and could make as much as 1000 by 2026.
IndyCar has charted a new “Fast and Loud” plan for its future engine regulations that will run from 2021 through 2026. An increase in horsepower is the central part of the rules drafted by IndyCar competition president Jay Frye and his technical team.

Wish F1 can / will come up with a good "Fast and Loud" plan for 2021 as well [-o< [-o<
